Abstract

A method of providing a menu, and a multimedia device incorporating the same. In the multimedia device, the touchscreen is controlled to be activated and a menu that is selectable through a user touch is displayed on the touchscreen, when a user manipulation is input through a manipulating unit while the touchscreen is in an inactivated state. As a result, efficient arrangement of menus in the touchscreen is achieved.

Claims

1. An electronic device comprising:

a touch screen to receive a user touch input;

a manipulating unit to receive a user manipulation; and

a control unit to control so that the touch screen is activated and a menu that is selectable by a user'"'"'s touch input is indicated on the touch screen, when the user manipulation is input through the manipulating unit while the touch screen is in an inactivated state,

wherein the touch screen in the inactivated state displays the menu and does not receive the user touch input.

2. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the manipulating unit comprises a button.

3. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the control unit controls so that the menu that is selectable by the user touch input is not displayed on the touchscreen when the touchscreen is in the inactivated state.

4. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the menu comprises items and icons to represent functions of the items.

5. The electronic device of claim 4, wherein, when an item is selected from the menu through the touchscreen, the control unit controls so that an icon of the selected item remains being displayed in the touchscreen even after the menu disappears.

6. The electronic device of claim 5, wherein the icon of the selected item is displayed in the same spot irrespective of whether the icon is displayed along with the menu or displayed without the menu.

14. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein, if the menu displayed on the touchscreen is not selectable by the user touch input, then the control unit controls the touchscreen so that the menu is not displayed on the touchscreen in the inactivated state.

7. An electronic device comprising:

a display unit to display a menu comprising items and icons to represent the items;

an input unit to select one from among the items of the menu being displayed in the display unit; and

a control unit to control so that when an item is selected from the menu through the input unit, an icon of the selected item remains being displayed on the display unit even after the menu disappears.

8. The electronic device of claim 7, wherein the icon of the selected item is displayed in the same spot irrespective of whether the icon is displayed along with the menu or displayed without the menu.

9. The electronic device of claim 7, further comprising:

a manipulating unit to receive a user manipulation, and wherein the display unit and the input unit are implemented as a touchscreen, and wherein the control unit controls so that the touchscreen is activated and a menu that is selectable through a user touch input is displayed on the touchscreen, when the user manipulation is input through the manipulating unit while the touchscreen is in the inactivated state.

10. The electronic device of claim 9, wherein the manipulating unit comprises a button,

15. The electronic device of claim 7, wherein, when the menu disappears, information other than the menu is displayed in place of the menu.

11. An electronic device, comprising:

a touchscreen to receive a user'"'"'s touch input to select a menu among plural menus; and

a manipulating unit to activate the touchscreen such that the menus that are selectable by a user'"'"'s touch input are indicated on the touchscreen while the touchscreen is in an inactivated state,

wherein the touch screen in the inactivated state displays the menu and does not receive the user'"'"'s touch input.

12. The electronic device of claim 11, wherein the menus each comprise items and icons to represent functions of the items.

13. The electronic device of claim 12, wherein, when an item is selected from one of the menus through the touchscreen, an icon of the selected item remains being displayed at the touchscreen even after the menu is removed from the touchscreen.

16. An electronic device comprising:

a display unit to display a menu screen comprising items and icons to represent the items;

an input unit to activate and to deactivate the menu screen; and

a control unit to control the display unit so that when the menu screen is deactivated, the items disappear on the display unit while the icons remain displayed on the display unit.
