Abstract

Systems and methods control resizing a presentation of an image on a flexible display. A user flexes a flexible display in a particular manner to control magnification or size reduction of the image presented on the display. The amount of magnification or size reduction of the image presented on a flexible display increases along with the absolute magnitude of flexible display flexing. The flexible display can be double flexed within a defined time to indicate that another action is to be taken, such as fitting the presently displayed document to the width of the flexible display or fitting the entire document to the flexible display. The direction of flexing, such as flexing in a concave or a convex direction, is a flexing characteristic that causes other desired actions.

Claims

1. A flexible display command receiving system, comprising:

a flexible display;

at least one flexing sensor configured to characterize a flexing of the flexible display; and

a display controller, communicatively coupled to the at least one flexing sensor, the display controller configured to;

provide an initial presentation of an image on the flexible display;

receive a characterization of the flexing;

determine, based on the characterization, that the flexing is a defined flexing; and

resize at least a portion of the initial presentation of the image on the flexible display in response to determining that the flexing is the defined flexing.

2. The flexible display command receiving system of claim 1,

the at least one flexing sensor configured to characterize a magnitude of the flexing of the flexible display, and

the display controller configured to resize the initial presentation of the image based upon the magnitude of the flexing.

3. The flexible display command receiving system of claim 1, the determined flexing comprising flexing along a defined axis.

4. The flexible display command receiving system of claim 1, the determined flexing comprising flexing in a defined direction.

5. The flexible display command receiving system of claim 1, the display controller further configured to:

detect, based on the characterization of the flexing, a reset flexing of the flexible display, and

display the initial presentation in its original size in response to detecting the reset flexing.

6. The flexible display command receiving system of claim 1, the defined flexing comprising a first flexing of the flexible display and a second flexing of the flexible display, the first flexing being separate from the second flexing and the first flexing and the second flexing occurring within a defined time period.

7. The flexible display command receiving system of claim 1,

the at least one flexing sensor configured to characterize a location on the flexible display of the flexing of the flexible display, and

the display controller configured to resize a portion of the initial presentation of the image, the portion being less than an entirety of the initial presentation, the portion being selected based upon the location on the flexible display of the flexing.

8. The flexible display command receiving system of claim 7, the portion of the initial presentation corresponding to a portion of the initial presentation displayed at the location.

9. The flexible display command receiving system of claim 7, the portion of the initial presentation corresponding to a portion of the initial presentation displayed adjacent to and removed from the location.

10. The flexible display command receiving system of claim 7, the display controller further configured to:

receive a scrolling command;

scroll the initial presentation across the flexible display in response to receiving the scrolling command to create a presentation of a scrolled image on the flexible display; and

resize a scrolled portion of the presentation of the scrolled image, the scrolled portion being less than an entirety of the presentation of the scrolled image, the scrolled portion being selected based upon the location on the flexible display of the flexing.

11. A method for receiving commands from a flexible display system, the method comprising:

providing an initial presentation of an image on the flexible display;

characterizing a flexing of a flexible display;

determining, based on the characterizing, that the flexing is a defined flexing; and

resizing at least a portion of the initial presentation of the image on the flexible display in response to determining that the flexing is the defined flexing.

12. The method of claim 11,

the characterizing comprising characterizing a magnitude of the flexing of the flexible display, and

the resizing being based upon the magnitude of the flexing.

13. The method of claim 11, the determined flexing comprising at least one of flexing along a defined axis and flexing in a defined direction.

14. The method claim 11, further comprising:

detecting a reset flexing of the flexible display,

displaying the initial presentation in its original size in response to detecting the reset flexing.

15. The method claim 11, the defined flexing comprising a first flexing of the flexible display and a second flexing of the flexible display, the first flexing being separate from the second flexing and the first flexing and the second flexing occurring within a defined time period.

16. The method of claim 11,

the characterizing comprising characterizing a location on the flexible display of the flexing of the flexible display, and

the resizing comprising resizing a portion of the initial presentation of the image, the portion being less than an entirety of the image presented on the flexible display, the portion being selected based upon the location on the flexible display of the flexing.

17. The method of claim 16, the portion of the initial presentation corresponding to an area of the image displayed at the location.

18. The method of claim 16, the portion of the initial presentation corresponding to an area of the image displayed adjacent to and removed from the location.

19. The method of claim 16, further comprising:

receiving a scrolling command;

scrolling the initial presentation across the flexible display in response to receiving the scrolling command to create a presentation of a scrolled image on the flexible display; and

resizing a scrolled portion of the presentation of the scrolled image, the scrolled portion being less than an entirety of the presentation of the scrolled image, the scrolled portion being selected based upon the location on the flexible display of the flexing.

20. A wireless communications device, comprising:

a processor;

a memory, communicatively coupled to the processor, configured to store information operated upon by the processor;

a wireless communications component configured to provide wireless data communications between the processor and a wireless data network;

a flexible display;

at least one flexing sensor configured to characterize a flexing of the flexible display; and

a display controller, communicatively coupled to the at least one flexing sensor, the display controller configured to;

provide an initial presentation of an image on the flexible display;

receive a characterization of the flexing;

determine, based on the characterization, that the flexing is a defined flexing; and

resize at least a portion of the initial presentation of the image on the flexible display in response to determining that the flexing is the defined flexing.

21. A computer program product for receiving commands from a flexible display system, the computer program product comprising:

a computer readable storage medium having computer readable program code embodied therewith, the computer readable program code comprising instructions for;

providing an initial presentation of an image on the flexible display;

characterizing a flexing of a flexible display;

determining, based on the characterizing, that the flexing is a defined flexing; and

resizing at least a portion of the initial presentation of the image on the flexible display in response to determining that the flexing is the defined flexing.

22. The computer program product of claim 21,

the characterizing comprising characterizing a magnitude of the flexing of the flexible display, and

the resizing being based upon the magnitude of the flexing.

23. The computer program product claim 21, the defined flexing comprising a first flexing of the flexible display and a second flexing of the flexible display, the first flexing being separate from the second flexing and the first flexing and the second flexing occurring within a defined time period.

24. The computer program product of claim 21,

the characterizing comprising characterizing a location on the flexible display of the flexing of the flexible display, and

the resizing comprising resizing a portion of the initial presentation of the image, the portion being less than an entirety of the image presented on the flexible display, the portion being selected based upon the location on the flexible display of the flexing.
