1. A method performed by a delivery server, comprising:
- receiving, at the delivery server, a first subscription message from a delivery client on a mobile device, the first subscription message including a subscription filter that specifies content of interest for a content-consuming application on the mobile device;
sending to a content provider server after the receiving, a second subscription message which is different from the first subscription message, the second subscription message including the subscription filter for establishing a subscription to the content of interest on behalf of the content-consuming application; and
receiving, at the delivery server after the sending, a message from the content provider server that includes the content of interest and an identifier that identifies the subscription.
