Abstract

Methods, systems, and products are disclosed for notification of alarms in security systems. A packetized alarm message is received from a security system associated with a network address. The network address is associated to a notification address. A communication to the notification address is initiated to alert of an alarm from a security system.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

detecting an alarm in a security system;

retrieving a network address to notify of the alarm;

sending a packetized alarm message to the network address over a wireless cellular network connection to a data network;

sending the packetized alarm message to the network address over a wireline broadband network connection to the data network when the wireless cellular network connection is unavailable; and

sending a text message to the network address using a short message service when the wireline broadband network connection is unavailable.

2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising determining whether the wireless cellular network connection is available.

3. The method according to claim 1, further comprising determining whether the wireline broadband network connection is available.

4. The method according to claim 1, further comprising sending a polling message to determine whether the wireless cellular network connection is available.

5. The method according to claim 4, further comprising receiving a response that indicates the wireless cellular network connection is available.

6. The method according to claim 4, further comprising receiving a response that indicates the wireline broadband network connection is available.

7. The method according to claim 4, further comprising receiving a response that indicates the short message service is available.

8. The method according to claim 4, further comprising receiving two responses to the polling message that indicate the wireline broadband network connection is available and that indicate the short message service is available.

9. A system, comprising:

a processor executing code stored in memory that causes the processor to;

detect an alarm in a security system;

retrieve a network address to notify of the alarm;

send a packetized alarm message to the network address over a wireless cellular network connection to a data network;

send the packetized alarm message to the network address over a wireline broadband network connection to the data network when the wireless cellular network connection is unavailable; and

send a text message to the network address using a short message service when the wireline broadband network connection is unavailable.

13. The system according to claim 12, further comprising code that causes the processor to determine whether the wireless cellular network connection is available.

14. The system according to claim 12, further comprising code that causes the processor to determine whether the wireline broadband network connection is available.

15. The system according to claim 12, further comprising code that causes the processor to send a polling message to determine whether the wireless cellular network connection is available.

16. The system according to claim 15, further comprising code that causes the processor to receive a response that indicates the wireless cellular network connection is available.

17. The system according to claim 15, further comprising code that causes the processor to receive a response that indicates the wireline broadband network connection is available.

18. The system according to claim 15, further comprising code that causes the processor to receive a response that indicates the short message service is available.

19. The system according to claim 15, further comprising code that causes the processor to receive two responses to the polling message that indicate the wireline broadband network connection is available and that indicate the short message service is available.

20. A computer readable medium storing processor executable instructions for performing a method, the method comprising:

sending a polling message to determine whether a wireless cellular network connection to a data network is available for reporting an alarm in a security system;

receiving a first response to the polling message that indicates a wireline broadband network connection is available to the data network;

receiving a second response to the polling message that indicates a short message service is available to the data network;

detecting the alarm in the security system;

retrieving a network address to notify of the alarm; and

sending a packetized alarm message to the network address over the wireless cellular network connection to the data network to notify a central monitoring station of the alarm.
