Abstract

Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, for transactions associated with a mobile device are discussed. A method can include receiving a merchant identifier, sending an identification data, receiving a transaction, and processing a funds transfer. The receiving the merchant identifier is from a mobile device associated with a user registered with a central payment service. The identification data is associated with the user and the identification data includes multiple identifying data items. The transaction data details a transaction between the merchant and the user. The funds transfer is between the merchant and the user based on the transaction.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving, over a network at a central payment service server, a merchant identifier from a mobile device associated with a user registered with a central payment service;

sending, to a merchant associated with the merchant identifier, identification data associated with the user, the identification data including multiple identifying data items;

receiving, over the network, transaction data detailing a transaction between the merchant and the user; and

processing a funds transfer between the merchant and the user based on the transaction.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the sending the identification data includes sending an image identifying the user.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the receiving the merchant identifier includes transmitting a response to the mobile device, the response including offers from the merchant.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the receiving the transaction data includes receiving authorization data from the mobile device to authorize the central payment service to access an account associated with the user.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the receiving the transaction data includes receiving a request to identify the transaction as a group transaction.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the receiving the transaction data includes receiving an enrollment request from a second mobile device associated with a second user registered with the central payment service.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the processing the funds transfer includes transmitting a payment division request to the mobile device and the second mobile to determine how payment for the group transaction will be split.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving, over the network at the central payment service server, registration data from a merchant to register with the central payment service.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising sending, over the network, an electronic receipt detailing the transaction between the merchant and the user.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the sending identification data associated with the user includes sending location data identifying a physical location associated with the user.

11. A machine-readable storage medium including instruction that, when executed on a machine, cause the machine to:

receive a merchant identifier from a mobile device associated with a user registered with a central payment service;

send, to a merchant associated with the merchant identifier, identification data associated with the user, the identification data including multiple identifying data items;

receive transaction data detailing a transaction between the merchant and the user; and

process a funds transfer between the merchant and the user based on the transaction.

12. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein the instructions to send the identification data include instructions to send an image identifying the user.

13. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein the instructions to receive the merchant identifier include instructions to transmit a response to the mobile device, the response including offers from the merchant.

14. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein the instructions to receive the transaction data include instructions to receive authorization data from the mobile device to authorize the central payment service to access an account associated with the user.

15. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein the instructions to receive the transaction data include instructions to receive a request to identify the transaction as a group transaction.

16. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the instructions to receive the transaction data include instructions to receive an enrollment request from a second mobile device associated with a second user registered with the central payment service.

17. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 16, wherein the instructions to process the funds transfer include instructions to transmit a payment division request to the mobile device and the second mobile to determine how payment for the group transaction will be split.

18. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 11, further comprising instructions to receive registration data from a merchant to register with the central payment service.

19. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 11, further comprising instructions to send an electronic receipt detailing the transaction between the merchant and the user.

20. The machine-readable storage medium of claim 11, wherein the instructions to send identification data associated with the user include instructions to send location data identifying a physical location associated with the user.

21. A system comprising:

a server, the server including;

a service interface configured to communicate with a mobile device over a network connection, the service interface further configured to;

receive a merchant identifier from the mobile device, the mobile device associated with a user registered with a central payment service;

send, to a merchant associated with the merchant identifier, identification data associated with the user, the identification data including multiple identifying data items; and

receive transaction data detailing a transaction between the merchant and the user; and

a payment network interface configured to communicate with the central payment service, the payment network interface further configured to;

transmit transaction data to the central payment service to enable the central payment service to process a funds transfer between the merchant and the user; and

receive confirmation of the funds transfer.
