Abstract

A portable device and a method for providing a User Interface (UI) mode are provided. The portable device includes a display unit, a sensor unit for sensing a user'"'"'s motion, and a control unit for controlling, if the user'"'"'s motion is sensed by the sensor unit, the display unit to release a standby mode of the portable device and to output a UI mode screen corresponding to a type of the motion.

Claims

1. A portable device comprising:

a display unit;

a sensor unit for sensing a user'"'"'s motion; and

a control unit for controlling, if the user'"'"'s motion is sensed by the sensor unit, the display unit to release a standby mode of the portable device and to output a User Interface (UI) mode screen corresponding to a type of the motion.

The portable device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the control unit outputs, if the motion is a touch input on the display unit, a touch UI mode screen corresponding to the touch input, and controls, if the motion is a proximity input sensed by a proximity sensor, the display unit to output a proximity UI mode screen corresponding to the proximity input.

3. The portable device as claimed in claim 2, wherein a size and an arrangement shape of a menu output according to the proximity UI mode screen are different from a size and an arrangement shape of a menu output according to the touch UI mode screen.

4. The portable device as claimed in claim 2, wherein a number of menus output according to the proximity UI mode screen is less than a number of menus output according to the touch UI mode screen.

5. The portable device as claimed in claim 2, wherein the control unit converts, if a specified icon is selected in the proximity UI mode, the proximity UI mode screen into the touch UI mode screen to display the touch UI mode screen.

6. The portable device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the control unit outputs, if the motion is an acceleration input cause by a change of acceleration of the portable device, an acceleration UI mode screen corresponding to the acceleration input.

7. The portable device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the control unit outputs, if the motion is a rotation input caused by at least one of rotations in pitch, roll, or yaw directions, a rotation mode screen corresponding to the rotation input.

8. The portable device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the control unit performs at least one function of a conversion, selection, and selection cancellation of a menu display that is displayed on the display unit according to a motion direction.

9. The portable device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the control unit selects, if the motion is performed in a first direction, a first menu to be displayed on the display unit, and selects, if the motion is performed in a second direction, a second menu to be displayed on the display unit.

10. The portable device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the sensor unit includes at least one of an Infra-Red (IR) sensor, a Radio Frequency (RF) sensor, an acceleration sensor, a geomagnetic sensor, and a gyro sensor.

11. A method of providing a User Interface (UI) mode in a portable device, the method comprising:

determining whether a user'"'"'s motion is sensed;

releasing, if the user'"'"'s motion is sensed, a standby mode of the portable device; and

outputting a UI mode screen corresponding to a type of the user'"'"'s motion.

The method of providing a UI as claimed in claim 11, wherein outputting the UI mode screen includes outputting, if the motion is a touch input for touching a display unit of the portable device, a touch UI mode screen corresponding to the touch input, and outputting, if the motion is a proximity input sensed by a proximity sensor, a proximity UI mode screen that corresponds to the proximity input.

The method of providing a UI as claimed in claim 12, wherein at least one of a size, arrangement, and shape of a menu that is output according to the proximity UI mode screen are different from at least one of a size, arrangement, and shape of a menu that is output from the touch UI mode screen.

14. The method of providing a UI as claimed in claim 12, wherein a number of menus that are output according to the proximity UI mode screen is less than a number of menus that are output according to the touch UI mode screen.

15. The method of providing a UI as claimed in claim 12, further comprising converting, if a specified icon is selected in the proximity UI mode, the proximity UI mode screen into the touch UI mode screen to display the touch UI mode screen.

16. The method of providing a UI as claimed in claim 11, wherein outputting the UI mode screen includes outputting, if the motion is an acceleration input caused by a change of acceleration of the portable device, an acceleration UI mode screen corresponding to the acceleration input.

17. The method of providing a UI as claimed in claim 11, wherein outputting the UI mode screen includes outputting, if the motion is a rotation input caused by at least one of pitch, roll, and yaw, rotations, a rotation UI mode screen that corresponds to the rotation input.

18. The method of providing a UI as claimed in claim 11, further comprising performing at least one function of a conversion, selection, and selection cancellation of a menu display that is displayed on the display of the portable device according to a direction of the user'"'"'s motion.

The method of providing a UI mode as claimed in claim 11, further comprising, if the user'"'"'s motion is performed in a first direction, selecting a first menu displayed on the display of the portable device and selecting, if the motion is performed in a second direction, a second menu displayed on the display of the portable device.

20. The method of providing a UI as claimed in claim 11, wherein the determining whether a user'"'"'s motion is sensed includes sensing the user'"'"'s motion using at least one of an Infra-Red OR) sensor, a Radio Frequency (RF) sensor, an acceleration sensor, a geomagnetic sensor, and a gyro sensor.
