Abstract

Embodiments related to systems and methods comprising receiving payment data at an access device; receiving an identifier for a phone at the access device; and generating and sending an authorization request message to a payment processing network, wherein the payment processing network generates a verification token, which is then sent to the phone whereby the phone is thereafter used to conduct payment transactions.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving payment card data at an access device;

receiving an identifier for a phone at the access device; and

generating and sending an authorization request message to a server computer associated with a payment processing network, wherein the server computer associated with the payment processing network generates a verification token, wherein the verification token indicates that subsequent transactions conducted by the phone are to be processed as card present transactions, wherein the verification token is then sent to the phone and is stored in the phone, whereby the phone is thereafter used to conduct payment transactions, wherein the payment transactions are processed as card present transactions.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the identifier for the phone is a phone number and wherein the payment card data comprises a payment card number, and wherein the phone number and the payment card number are stored and linked in a database coupled to the server computer.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the authorization request message is a first authorization request message, and wherein the method further comprises sending a second authorization request message comprising the verification token and a purchase price for a transaction to the server computer.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the verification token is static.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the verification token is dynamic.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the authorization request message comprises the identifier for the phone and the payment card data.

The method of claim 1 wherein the authorization request message is a first authorization request message, and wherein the method further comprises sending a second authorization request message comprising the verification token and a purchase price for a transaction, and wherein the server computer is configured to analyze the second authorization request message and perform card present processing if the verification token is present and is configured to perform card not present processing if the verification token is not present.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the verification token is associated with only one merchant.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein the access device is a point of sale terminal.

10. An access device comprising:

a processor; and

a computer readable medium coupled to the processor, the computer readable medium comprising, code executable by the processor, for implementing a method comprising;

receiving payment card data;

receiving an identifier for a phone; and

generating and sending an authorization request message to a server computer associated with a payment processing network, wherein server computer associated with the payment processing network generates a verification token, wherein the verification token indicates that subsequent transaction conducted by the phone are to be processed as card present transactions, wherein the verification token is then sent to the phone and is stored in the phone, whereby the phone is thereafter used to conduct payment transactions, wherein the payment transactions are processed as card present transactions.

11. The access device of claim 10 further comprising a card reader coupled to the processor.

12. The access device of claim 10 further comprising a card reader comprising an RF antenna, coupled to the processor.

13. The access device of claim 10 wherein the authorization request message comprises the identifier for the phone and the payment card data.

The access device of claim 10 wherein the authorization request message is a first authorization request message, and wherein the method further comprises sending a second authorization request message comprising the verification token and a purchase price for a transaction to the server computer.

15. The access device of claim 14 wherein the server computer analyzes the second authorization request message and wherein the server computer is configured to perform card present processing if the token is present and card not present processing if the verification token is not present.

16. The access device of claim 14 wherein the second authorization request message further comprises a verification value, which was previously received by the phone.

17. A system comprising:

an access device comprising (a) a processor, and (b) a computer readable medium coupled to the processor, the computer readable medium comprising, code executable by the processor, for implementing a method comprising receiving payment card data, receiving an identifier for a phone, and generating and sending an authorization request message to a server computer associated with a payment processing network, wherein the payment processing network generates a verification token, wherein the verification token indicates that subsequent transaction conducted by the phone are to be processed as card present transactions, wherein the verification token is then sent to the phone, whereby the phone is thereafter used to conduct payment transactions, and wherein the payment transactions are processed as card present transactions; and

a phone configured to interact with the access device.

18. The system of claim 17 wherein the phone comprise a contactless element.

19. The system of claim 17 wherein the authorization request message is a first authorization request message, and wherein the method further comprises sending, by the access device, a second authorization request message comprising the verification token and a purchase price for the transaction.

20. The system of claim 17 wherein the phone comprises a memory storing the verification token.
