Abstract

A mechanism directed to extracting and displaying media content of a news feed or other structured document in a scrollable media wheel frame.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

accessing, at a computer system, a structured document including one or more media objects embedded therein;

identifying the one or more embedded media objects in the structured document;

extracting at least one of the one or more embedded media objects from the structured document; and

generating a media wheel frame for display in a graphical user interface, that includes the one or more media objects.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising displaying the media wheel frame adjacent to a rendered graphical display of the structured document.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the media wheel is scrollable.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein each of the media objects in the media wheel frame is selectable.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

storing the one or more media objects in a local storage of the computer system.

6. The method of claim 5, further comprising:

periodically accessing a remote data store; and

updating the one or more media objects stored in the local storage of the computer system.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the media object is extracted from an item entry in the structured document, and wherein the one or more media objects in the media wheel frame is an activatable element that, when activated, causes an item entry associated with the activated media object to be displayed.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the structured document comprises one or more news feed items.

9. A apparatus comprising:

a memory;

one or more processors;

a program stored on a non-transitory storage medium and comprising computer-readable instructions operative, when executed, to cause the one or more processors to;

access, at a computer system, a structured document including one or more media objects embedded therein;

identify the one or more embedded media objects in the structured document;

extract at least one of the one or more embedded media objects from the structured document; and

generate a media wheel frame for display in a graphical user interface, that includes the one or more media objects.

10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the program further comprises instructions operative to cause the one or more processors to display the media wheel frame adjacent to a rendered graphical display of the structured document.

11. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the media wheel is scrollable.

12. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein each of the media objects in the media wheel frame is selectable.

13. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the program further comprises instructions operative to cause the one or more processors to:

store the one or more media objects in a local storage of the computer system.

14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the program further comprises instructions operative to cause the one or more processors to:

periodically access a remote data store; and

update the one or more media objects stored in the local storage of the computer system.

15. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the media object is extracted from an item entry in the structured document, and wherein the one or more media objects in the media wheel frame is an activatable element that, when activated, causes an item entry associated with the activated media object to be displayed.

16. The apparatus of claim 9 wherein the structured document comprises one or more news feed items.

17. One or more computer-readable tangible storage media embodying software operable when executed by one or more computing devices to:

access, at a computer system, a structured document including one or more media objects embedded therein;

identify the one or more embedded media objects in the structured document;

extract at least one of the one or more embedded media objects from the structured document; and

generate a media wheel frame for display in a graphical user interface, that includes the one or more media objects.

18. The media of claim 17, further comprising software operable when executed by the one or more computing devices to display the media wheel frame adjacent to a rendered graphical display of the structured document.

19. The media of claim 17 wherein the media wheel is scrollable.

20. The media of claim 17 wherein each of the media objects in the media wheel frame is selectable.

21. The media of claim 17, further comprising software operable when executed by the one or more computing devices to:

store the one or more media objects in a local storage of the computer system.

22. The media of claim 21, further comprising software operable when executed by the one or more computing devices to:

periodically access a remote data store; and

update the one or more media objects stored in the local storage of the computer system.

23. The media of claim 17 wherein the media object is extracted from an item entry in the structured document, and wherein the one or more media objects in the media wheel frame is an activatable element that, when activated, causes an item entry associated with the activated media object to be displayed.

24. The media of claim 17 wherein the structured document comprises one or more news feed items.
