Abstract

A method for controlling display of information includes displaying content on a first display device, receiving a signal to share information, generating a message including information corresponding to the displayed content, and transmitting the message for display on at least a second display device. The message is transmitted to a provider of a network-related service, and the first and second display devices have access to the network-related service which may be but is not limited to a social network service.

Claims

1. A method for controlling display of information, comprising:

displaying content on a first display device;

receiving a signal to share information;

generating a message including information corresponding to the displayed content, the message automatically generated in response to the signal; and

transmitting the message for display on at least a second display device, wherein at least one of the first display device or the second display device is a television, wherein the message is transmitted to a provider of a network-related service and wherein the first and second display devices have access to the network-related service.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the content is derived from at least one of a broadcast signal, a web page, a game, or a media provider.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the network-related service is social network service (SNS), and

the first and second display devices have access to the SNS based on membership information.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

displaying a menu of the SNS on the first display device,

wherein the SNS menu is displayed simultaneously with the content.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein:

the information corresponding to the displayed content in the message is automatically obtained from an electronic program guide.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

displaying a list of predetermined words or phrases;

receiving a selection of one of the predetermined words or phrases; and

transmitting the selection for display on the second display device.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving text of a custom message to be transmitted from the first display device to the second display device.

8. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

displaying a menu of the SNS on the first display device,

wherein the SNS menu is displayed simultaneously with a home screen of the first display device.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

automatically displaying a link to the web page with the message before the message is transmitted for display on the second display device.

10. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

a) displaying information indicative of different SNSs; and

b) receiving a signal selecting one of the SNSs,

wherein a) and b) are performed before the message is transmitted.

11. A controller comprising:

an interface coupled to provider of a network-related service; and

a processor to;

a) control display of content on a screen of a first display device,

b) receive a signal to share information, and

c) generate a message to include information corresponding to the displayed content, wherein the message is generated in response to the signal to share information with a second display device and wherein the first and second display devices have access to the network-related service.

12. The controller of claim 11, wherein the controller is coupled to the first display device.

13. The controller of claim 11, wherein the first display device includes the controller.

14. The controller of claim 11, wherein different circuits or chips or software code sections perform at least two of a), b) or c).

15. The controller of claim 11, wherein the first and second display devices are televisions.

16. The controller of claim 11, wherein the content is derived from at least one of a broadcast signal, a web page, a game, or a media provider.

17. The controller of claim 11, wherein:

the network-related service is social network service (SNS), and

the first and second display devices have access to the SNS based on membership information.

18. The controller of claim 11, wherein:

the information corresponding to the displayed content in the message is automatically obtained from an electronic program guide.

19. The controller of claim 11, wherein:

the screen displays a list of predetermined words or phrases;

the processor receives a selection of one of the predetermined words or phrases to be included as or in the message.

20. The controller of claim 11, wherein the screen automatically displays a link to the web page with the message before the message is transmitted through the interface.
