Abstract

The present invention relates to wireless communications. More especially it relates to wireless packet data communications. Particularly it relates to latency reduction by distinguishing connection initiation of circuit switched and packet switched connections, respectively.

Claims

1. A method of uplink establishment in wireless cellular communications characterized in that a connection initiation is delayed depending on connection type.

2. The method according to claim 1 characterized in that the delaying of connection initiation includes delaying of sending a channel request message.

3. The method according to claim 1 characterized in that the connection initiation is delayed for circuit switched connections, and is not delayed for packet switched connections.

4. The method according to claim 2 characterized in that the channel request message is delayed for circuit switched connections, and is not delayed for packet switched connections.

5. The method according to claim 1 characterized in that the delay is implemented to comprise a pseudo-random time delay for circuit switched connections and a deterministic time delay for packet switched connections.

6. The method according to claim 5 characterized in that the deterministic time delay equals zero.

7. The method according to claim 5 characterized in that the pseudo-random time delay has a rectangular probability density function or a rectangular probability distribution.

8. The method according to claim 1 characterized in that the cellular communications system is a GSM system with GPRS or EGPRS.

9. The method according to claim 8 characterized in that timer T3120 is disregarded for packet switched connections.

10. The method according to claim 8 characterized in that timer T3120 is set equal to zero for packet switched connections.

23. The communications system characterized by the communications system comprising processing means for carrying out the method in claim 1.

11. An apparatus of uplink establishment in wireless cellular communications characterized by processing means for connection initiation, the processing means being arranged for delaying of the connection initiation depending on connection type.

12. The apparatus according to claim 11 comprising transmission means for transmitting one or more channel request messages, the apparatus characterized in that the delaying of connection initiation includes delaying of sending a channel request message.

13. The apparatus according to claim 11 characterized in that the connection initiation is delayed for initiation of circuit switched connections, and is not delayed for initiation of packet switched connections.

14. The apparatus according to claim 12 characterized in that the channel request message is delayed for circuit switched connections, and is not delayed for packet switched connections.

15. The apparatus according to claim 11 characterized by a timer for generating a pseudo-random time delay for circuit switched connections and for generating a deterministic time delay for packet switched connections.

16. The apparatus according to claim 15 characterized in that the deterministic time delay equals zero.

17. The apparatus according to claim 15 characterized in that the pseudo-random time delay has a rectangular probability density function or a rectangular probability distribution.

18. The apparatus according to claim 11 characterized by a timer for generating a pseudorandom time delay for circuit switched connections and for not generating the time delay for packet switched connections.

19. The apparatus according to claim 11 characterized in that the cellular communications system is a GSM system with GPRS or EGPRS.

20. The apparatus according to claim 19 characterized in that timer T3120 is disregarded for packet switched connections.

21. The apparatus according to claim 19 characterized in that timer T3120 is set equal to zero for packet switched connections.

22. The apparatus according to claim 11 characterized in that the apparatus is included in or is user equipment or mobile station.

24. The communications system characterized by the communications system comprising a plurality of apparatuses in 11.
