Abstract

A mobile device is described that includes a control for activating a function of the mobile device. The function includes a Push-to-Talk function and/or a Push-to-Scan function of the mobile device. A processor executes the function when the control is activated. A transceiver is coupled to the processor. The transceiver is capable of communicating with at least one networked device over a local area network using voice over internet protocol (VoIP). A memory is coupled to the processor for storing instructions to execute the function by the processor. The processor executes the Push-to-Talk function in a first mode of operation and the Push-to-Scan function in a second mode of operation. The mobile device is part of a system that is also described. The system consists of a VoIP Push-to-Talk infrastructure, either server based or serverless. The mobile device described provides Push-to-Scan functionality over the existing VoIP infrastructure.

Claims

1. A mobile device, comprising:

a control for activating a function of the mobile device, the function comprising at least one of a Push-to-Talk function and a Push-to-Scan function of the mobile device;

a processor coupled to the control, the processor executing the function when the control is activated;

a transceiver coupled to the processor, the transceiver capable of communicating with at least one networked device over a local area network using voice over internet protocol (VoIP); and

a memory coupled to the processor for storing instructions to execute the function by the processor, the processor executing the Push-to-Talk function in a first mode of operation and the Push-to-Scan function in a second mode of operation.

2. The mobile device of claim 1, further comprising a speaker and a microphone for enabling the Push-to-Talk function.

3. The mobile device of claim 1, further comprising a data capture device for enabling the Push-to-Scan function.

4. The mobile device of claim 3, wherein the data capture device comprises at least one of a barcode scanner, an imaging device, and a radio-frequency identification (RFID) reader.

5. The mobile device of claim 1, further comprising a display coupled to the processor for displaying a graphical user interface (GUI).

6. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the memory further comprises a database for storing product information.

7. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the Push-to-Talk function comprises communicating audio data between the mobile device and at least one networked device.

8. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the Push-to-Scan function comprises communicating product data between the mobile device and at least one networked device.

9. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the Push-to-Scan function comprises communicating product data between one and many the mobile devices.

10. The mobile device of claim 1, wherein the instructions comprise a request based service application executed in response to activating a function of the mobile device.

11. The mobile device of claim 10, wherein the request based service application creates a request for a fused scan and voice service application.

12. The mobile device of claim 11, wherein the request based service application is executed in response to activating a function of the mobile device.

13. The mobile device of claim 11, wherein the request based service application controls the Push-to-Talk function and the Push-to-Scan function.

14. A method, comprising:

storing instructions to execute a function of a mobile device, the function comprising at least one of a Push-to-Talk function and a Push-to-Scan function of the mobile device;

executing the Push-to-Talk function in a first mode of operation and the Push-to-Scan function in a second mode of operation; and

communicating data generated by executing the function with at least one networked device over a local area network using voice over internet protocol (VoIP).

15. The method of claim 14, wherein the data comprises one of audio data and product data.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein the data is generated by one of a barcode scanner, an imaging device, and a radio-frequency identification (RFID) reader.

17. The method of claim 14, further comprising displaying a graphical user interface (GUI).

18. The method of claim 14, further comprising storing product information.

19. The method of claim 14, wherein the Push-to-Talk function comprises communicating audio data between the mobile device and at least one other mobile device.

20. The method of claim 14, wherein the Push-to-Scan function comprises communicating product data between the mobile device and at least one other mobile device.

21. A mobile device comprising:

means for storing instructions to execute a function of the mobile device, the function comprising at least one of a Push-to-Talk function and a Push-to-Scan function of the mobile device;

means for executing the Push-to-Talk function in a first mode of operation and the Push-to-Scan function in a second mode of operation; and

means for communicating data generated by executing the function with at least one networked device over a local area network using voice over internet protocol (VoIP).
