Abstract

Various embodiments are directed to methods for generating proxy account data for a financial account and authorizing payment from an account of a customer based on proxy account data. Example methods may comprise selecting a serial number for a first customer and storing an association between the serial number and an account of the first customer. The methods may further comprise encrypting the serial number and consolidating the encrypted serial number with checkable data. An association between the encrypted serial number and the checkable data may be stored and the consolidated encrypted serial number and checkable data may be encrypted to generate proxy account data.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method for generating proxy account data for a financial account, the method comprising:

for a first customer, selecting a serial number by a computer system, wherein the computer system comprises at least one processor and operatively associated memory;

storing, by the computer system, an association between the serial number and an account of the first customer;

encrypting, by the computer system, the serial number;

consolidating, by the computer system, the encrypted serial number with checkable data;

storing, by the computer system, an association between the encrypted serial number and the checkable data; and

encrypting, by the computer system, the consolidated encrypted serial number and checkable data to generate proxy account data.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the computer system comprises a first computer system and a second computer system, wherein the selecting the serial number, the storing the association between the serial number and the account, and the encrypting the serial number are performed by the first computer system, and wherein the consolidating the encrypted serial number with checkable data, the storing the association between the encrypted serial number and the checkable data, and the encrypting the consolidated encrypted serial number and checkable data is performed by the second computer system.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the first computer system and the second computer systems are at different physical locations.

The method of claim 2, wherein the at least one processor and operatively associated memory of the first computer system and the at least one processor and operatively associated memory of the second computer system comprise at least one characteristic selected from the group consisting of at least one processor in common and at least one memory in common.

5. The method of claim 2, wherein the first computer system and the second computer system are behind different firewalls.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising transmitting the proxy account data to the first customer.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the transmitting comprises at least one action selected from the group consisting of:

displaying the proxy account data on a screen to be viewed by the first customer;

mailing a printed copy of the proxy account data to the first customer; and

e-mailing the proxy account data to the first customer.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein the transmitting comprises transmitting the proxy account data to a mobile device associated with the first customer.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the mobile device is programmed to communicate the proxy account data to a vendor using at least one action selected from the group consisting of:

wirelessly transmitting the proxy account data to the vendor; and

generating an image of the proxy account data readable by the vendor.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the proxy account data is in a form selected from the group consisting of an alphanumeric form and a symbolic form.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein encrypting the serial number comprises utilizing an encryption method selected from the group consisting of a symmetric encryption method and an asymmetric encryption method.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the checkable data comprises an indication of the account.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the checkable data comprises an indication of a timestamp.

14. The method of claim 1, further comprising associating at least one use restriction with the serial number.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the use restriction is selected from the group consisting of:

at least one vendor where the proxy account data can be used, at least one vendor where the proxy account data can not be used;

a time limitation on when the proxy account data can be used; and

a number of times that the proxy account data can be used.

16. A system for generating proxy account data for a financial account, the system comprising at least one processor and operatively associated memory comprising instructions thereon that when executed by the at least one processor cause the system to:

for a first customer, select a serial number by a computer system;

store an association between the serial number and an account of the first customer; and

encrypt the serial number;

consolidate the encrypted serial number with checkable data; and

store an association between the encrypted serial number and the checkable data; and

encrypt the consolidated encrypted serial number and checkable data to generate proxy account data.

17. The system of claim 16, further comprising a first computer system and a second computer system:

wherein the first computer system is programmed to;

for a first customer, select a serial number by a computer system;

store an association between the serial number and an account of the first customer; and

encrypt the serial number; and

wherein the second computer system is programmed to;

consolidate the encrypted serial number with checkable data; and

store an association between the encrypted serial number and the checkable data; and

encrypt the consolidated encrypted serial number and checkable data to generate proxy account data.

18. A computer readable medium comprising instructions thereon that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:

for a first customer, select a serial number by a computer system;

store an association between the serial number and an account of the first customer; and

encrypt the serial number;

consolidate the encrypted serial number with checkable data; and

store an association between the encrypted serial number and the checkable data; and

encrypt the consolidated encrypted serial number and checkable data to generate proxy account data.

19. A computer-implemented method of authorizing payment from an account of a first customer to a vendor based on proxy account data, the method comprising:

receiving by a computer system, proxy account data, wherein the computer system comprises at least one processor and operatively associated memory;

decrypting, by the computer system, the proxy account data to generate an encrypted serial number and checkable data;

verifying, by the computer system, the checkable data;

decrypting, by the computer system, the encrypted serial number;

verifying, by the computer system, an association between the serial number and the account of the first customer;

conditioned upon the association between the serial number and the account being verified, authorizing a payment from the account of the first customer to the vendor.

The method of claim 19, wherein the computer system comprises a first computer system and a second computer system, wherein the decrypting the proxy account data and the verifying the checkable data is performed by the first computer system, and wherein the decrypting the encrypted serial number and the verifying the association between the serial number and the account is performed by the second computer system.

21. The method of claim 19, further comprising:

receiving transaction data;

retrieving, by the computer system, at least one use restriction associated with the serial number; and

verifying that the transaction data is consistent with the use restriction, wherein the authorizing the payment is also conditioned upon the transaction data being consistent with the use restriction.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the use restriction is selected from the group consisting of:

at least one vendor where the proxy account data can be used, at least one vendor where the proxy account data can not be used;

a time limitation on when the proxy account data can be used; and

a number of times that the proxy account data can be used.

23. A system for generating proxy account data for a financial account, the system comprising at least one processor and operatively associated memory comprising instructions thereon that when executed by the at least one processor cause the system to:

receive proxy account data, wherein the computer system comprises at least one processor and operatively associated memory;

decrypt the proxy account data to generate an encrypted serial number and checkable data;

verify the checkable data;

decrypt the encrypted serial number;

verify an association between the serial number and the account of the first customer; and

conditioned upon the association between the serial number and the account being verified, authorize a payment from the account of the first customer to the vendor.

24. The system of claim 23, further comprising a first computer system and a second computer system:

wherein the first computer system is programmed to;

decrypt the proxy account data to generate an encrypted serial number and checkable data; and

verify the checkable data; and

wherein the second computer system is programmed to;

decrypt the encrypted serial number; and

verify an association between the serial number and the account of the first customer.

25. A computer readable medium comprising instructions thereon that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:

receive proxy account data, wherein the computer system comprises at least one processor and operatively associated memory;

decrypt the proxy account data to generate an encrypted serial number and checkable data;

verify the checkable data;

decrypt the encrypted serial number;

verify an association between the serial number and the account of the first customer; and

conditioned upon the association between the serial number and the account being verified, authorize a payment from the account of the first customer to the vendor.
