Abstract

Certain aspects of the present disclosure propose techniques for performing a time division duplex-long term evolution (TDD-LTE) measurement in a time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) system. Certain aspects provide a method that generally includes obtaining measurements of downlink (DL) transmission from a base station (BS) of a second radio access technology (RAT), maintaining uplink (UL) transmission with a BS of a first RAT while obtaining the measurements, and performing network acquisition operations with the BS of the second RAT based on the measurements.

Claims

1. A method for wireless communications, comprising:

obtaining measurements of downlink (DL) transmission from a base station (BS) of a second radio access technology (RAT);

maintaining uplink (UL) transmission with a BS of a first RAT while obtaining the measurements; and

performing network acquisition operations with the BS of the second RAT based on the measurements.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first RAT comprises Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA).

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the second RAT comprises Time Division Duplex Long Term Evolution (TDD-LTE).

4. The method of claim 1, wherein obtaining comprises acquiring a primary synchronization signal (PSS), a secondary synchronization signal (SSS), and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) of the BS of the second RAT.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein upon acquiring the PSS, the SSS, and the PBCH, measuring a reference signal received power (RSRP) and a reference signal received quality (RSRQ).

6. The method of claim 1, wherein upon obtaining the measurements, switching DL from the BS of the second RAT to the BS of the first RAT.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein switching comprises switching before a next DL transmission from the BS of the first RAT.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the next DL transmission from the BS of the first RAT is a second DL time slot of a subframe of the first RAT.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the DL transmission from the BS of the second RAT is a first DL time slot of the subframe of the first RAT.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein obtaining the measurements of the DL transmission from the BS of the second RAT comprises switching DL from the BS of the first RAT to the BS of the second RAT at the first DL time slot of the subframe of the first RAT.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein a frame boundary of the BS of the first RAT is synchronous with the BS of the second RAT.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the network acquisition operations comprises a handover to the BS of the second RAT.

13. An apparatus for wireless communications, comprising:

means for obtaining measurements of downlink (DL) transmission from a base station (BS) of a second radio access technology (RAT);

means for maintaining uplink (UL) transmission with a BS of a first RAT while obtaining the measurements; and

means for performing network acquisition operations with the BS of the second RAT based on the measurements.

14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the first RAT comprises Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA).

15. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the second RAT comprises Time Division Duplex Long Term Evolution (TDD-LTE).

16. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the means for obtaining comprises means for acquiring a primary synchronization signal (PSS), a secondary synchronization signal (SSS), and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) of the BS of the second RAT.

17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein upon acquiring the PSS, the SSS, and the PBCH, means for measuring a reference signal received power (RSRP) and a reference signal received quality (RSRQ).

18. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein upon obtaining measurements, means for switching DL from the BS of the second RAT to the BS of the first RAT.

19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the means for switching comprises means for switching before a next DL transmission from the BS of the first RAT.

20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein the next DL transmission from the BS of the first RAT is a second DL time slot of a subframe of the first RAT.

21. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the DL transmission from the BS of the second RAT is a first DL time slot of the subframe of the first RAT.

22. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the means for obtaining the measurements of the DL transmission from the BS of the second RAT comprises means for switching DL from the BS of the first RAT to the BS of the second RAT at the first DL time slot of the subframe of the first RAT.

23. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein a frame boundary of the BS of the first RAT is synchronous with the BS of the second RAT.

24. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein the network acquisition operations comprises a handover to the BS of the second RAT.

25. An apparatus for wireless communications, comprising:

at least one processor adapted to;

obtain measurements of downlink (DL) transmission from a base station (BS) of a second radio access technology (RAT);

maintain uplink (UL) transmission with a BS of a first RAT while obtaining the measurements; and

perform network acquisition operations with the BS of the second RAT based on the measurements; and

a memory coupled to the at least one processor.

26. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the first RAT comprises Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA).

27. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the second RAT comprises Time Division Duplex Long Term Evolution (TDD-LTE).

28. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the at least one processor adapted to obtain measurements of downlink (DL) transmission from a base station (BS) of a second radio access technology (RAT) comprises acquiring a primary synchronization signal (PSS), a secondary synchronization signal (SSS), and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) of the BS of the second RAT.

29. The apparatus of claim 28, wherein upon acquiring the PSS, the SSS, and the PBCH, the at least one processor is adapted to measure a reference signal received power (RSRP) and a reference signal received quality (RSRQ).

30. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein upon obtaining the measurements, the at least one processor is adapted to switch DL from the BS of the second RAT to the BS of the first RAT.

31. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the at least one processor adapted to switch comprises switching before a next DL transmission from the BS of the first RAT.

32. The apparatus of claim 31, wherein the next DL transmission from the BS of the first RAT is a second DL time slot of a subframe of the first RAT.

33. The apparatus of claim 32, wherein the DL transmission from the BS of the second RAT is a first DL time slot of the subframe of the first RAT.

34. The apparatus of claim 33, wherein the at least one processor adapted to obtain the measurements of the DL transmission from the BS of the second RAT comprises switching DL from the BS of the first RAT to the BS of the second RAT at the first DL time slot of the subframe of the first RAT.

35. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein a frame boundary of the BS of the first RAT is synchronous with the BS of the second RAT.

36. The apparatus of claim 25, wherein the network acquisition operations comprises a handover to the BS of the second RAT.

37. A computer-program product, comprising:

a computer-readable medium comprising code for;

obtaining measurements of downlink (DL) transmission from a base station (BS) of a second radio access technology (RAT);

maintaining uplink (UL) transmission with a BS of a first RAT while obtaining the measurements; and

performing network acquisition operations with the BS of the second RAT based on the measurements.

38. The computer-program product of claim 37, wherein the first RAT comprises Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA).

39. The computer-program product of claim 37, wherein the second RAT comprises Time Division Duplex Long Term Evolution (TDD-LTE).

40. The computer-program product of claim 37, wherein the code for obtaining comprises code for acquiring a primary synchronization signal (PSS), a secondary synchronization signal (SSS), and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) of the BS of the second RAT.

41. The computer-program product of claim 40, wherein upon acquiring the PSS, the SSS, and the PBCH, code for measuring a reference signal received power (RSRP) and a reference signal received quality (RSRQ).

42. The computer-program product of claim 37, wherein upon obtaining the measurements, code for switching DL from the BS of the second RAT to the BS of the first RAT.

43. The computer-program product of claim 42, wherein the code for switching comprises code for switching before a next DL transmission from the BS of the first RAT.

44. The computer-program product of claim 43, wherein the next DL transmission from the BS of the first RAT is a second DL time slot of a subframe of the first RAT.

45. The computer-program product of claim 44, wherein the DL transmission from the BS of the second RAT is a first DL time slot of the subframe of the first RAT.

46. The computer-program product of claim 45, wherein the code for obtaining the measurements of the DL transmission from the BS of the second RAT comprises code for switching DL from the BS of the first RAT to the BS of the second RAT at the first DL time slot of the subframe of the first RAT.

47. The computer-program product of claim 37, wherein a frame boundary of the BS of the first RAT is synchronous with the BS of the second RAT.

48. The computer-program product of claim 37, wherein the network acquisition operations comprises a handover to the BS of the second RAT.

49. A method for wireless communications, comprising:

sending, from a base station (BS) of a first radio access technology (RAT), a command to a user equipment (UE), wherein the command instructs the UE to obtain measurements of downlink (DL) transmission from a BS of a second RAT; and

maintaining uplink (UL) transmission with the UE while the UE obtains the measurements.

50. The method of claim 49, wherein the first RAT comprises Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA).

51. The method of claim 49, wherein the second RAT comprises Time Division Duplex Long Term Evolution (TDD-LTE).

52. The method of claim 49, further comprising receiving a report of the measurements obtained by the UE to perform network acquisition operations of the UE to the BS of the second RAT.

53. The method of claim 52, wherein the network acquisition operations comprises a handover to the BS of the second RAT.

54. The method of claim 49, wherein a frame boundary of the BS of the first RAT is synchronous with the BS of the second RAT.

55. The method of claim 49, wherein the BS of the first RAT does not allocate DL transmission while the UE obtains the measurements.

56. The method of claim 55, wherein the DL transmission from the BS of the second RAT is a first DL time slot of a subframe of the first RAT.

57. An apparatus for wireless communications, comprising:

means for sending, from a base station (BS) of a first radio access technology (RAT), a command to a user equipment (UE), wherein the command instructs the UE to obtain measurements of downlink (DL) transmission from a BS of a second RAT; and

means for maintaining uplink (UL) transmission with the UE while the UE obtains the measurements.

58. The apparatus of claim 57, wherein the first RAT comprises Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA).

59. The apparatus of claim 57, wherein the second RAT comprises Time Division Duplex Long Term Evolution (TDD-LTE).

60. The apparatus of claim 57, further comprising means for receiving a report of the measurements obtained by the UE to perform network acquisition operations of the UE to the BS of the second RAT.

61. The apparatus of claim 60, wherein the network acquisition operations comprises a handover to the BS of the second RAT.

62. The apparatus of claim 57, wherein a frame boundary of the BS of the first RAT is synchronous with the BS of the second RAT.

63. The apparatus of claim 57, wherein the BS of the first RAT does not allocate DL transmission while the UE obtains the measurements.

64. The apparatus of claim 63, wherein the DL transmission from the BS of the second RAT is a first DL time slot of a subframe of the first RAT.

65. An apparatus for wireless communications, comprising:

at least one processor adapted to;

send, from a base station (BS) of a first radio access technology (RAT), a command to a user equipment (UE), wherein the command instructs the UE to obtain measurements of downlink (DL) transmission from a BS of a second RAT; and

maintain uplink (UL) transmission with the UE while the UE obtains the measurements; and

a memory coupled to the at least one processor.

66. The apparatus of claim 65, wherein the first RAT comprises Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA).

67. The apparatus of claim 65, wherein the second RAT comprises Time Division Duplex Long Term Evolution (TDD-LTE).

68. The apparatus of claim 65, wherein the at least one processor is adapted to receive a report of the measurements obtained by the UE to perform network acquisition operations of the UE to the BS of the second RAT.

69. The apparatus of claim 68, wherein the network acquisition operations comprises a handover to the BS of the second RAT.

70. The apparatus of claim 65, wherein a frame boundary of the BS of the first RAT is synchronous with the BS of the second RAT.

71. The apparatus of claim 65, wherein the BS of the first RAT does not allocate DL transmission while the UE obtains the measurements.

72. The apparatus of claim 71, wherein the DL transmission from the BS of the second RAT is a first DL time slot of a subframe of the first RAT.

73. A computer-program product, comprising:

a computer-readable medium comprising code for;

sending, from a base station (BS) of a first radio access technology (RAT), a command to a user equipment (UE), wherein the command instructs the UE to obtain measurements of downlink (DL) transmission from a BS of a second RAT; and

maintaining uplink (UL) transmission with the UE while the UE obtains the measurements.

74. The computer-program product of claim 73, wherein the first RAT comprises Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA).

75. The computer-program product of claim 73, wherein the second RAT comprises Time Division Duplex Long Term Evolution (TDD-LTE).

76. The computer-program product of claim 73, further comprising code for receiving a report of the measurements obtained by the UE to perform network acquisition operations of the UE to the BS of the second RAT.

77. The computer-program product of claim 76, wherein the network acquisition operations comprises a handover to the BS of the second RAT.

78. The computer-program product of claim 73, wherein a frame boundary of the BS of the first RAT is synchronous with the BS of the second RAT.

79. The computer-program product of claim 73, wherein the BS of the first RAT does not allocate DL transmission while the UE obtains the measurements.

80. The computer-program product of claim 79, wherein the DL transmission from the BS of the second RAT is a first DL time slot of a subframe of the first RAT.
