NONINVASIVE GLUCOSE SENSING METHODS AND SYSTEMS
First Claim
1. A method for noninvasive glucose sensing including the steps of:
- measuring a time of flight of ultrasound or electromagnetic pulses (or waves) in a target tissue or measuring at least one dimension of a target tissue using ultrasound or electromagnetic pulses (or waves); and
determining a glucose value from the time of flight in the target tissue in accordance with a time of flight versus glucose calibration curve or determining a glucose value from the dimension of the target tissue in accordance with the dimension versus glucose calibration curve.

Abstract
New methods and systems for noninvasive glucose monitoring and sensing with electromagnetic waves or ultrasound are disclosed. The methods are based on absolute or relative measurement of tissue dimensions (or changes in the dimensions) including, but not limited to: thickness, length, width, diameter, curvature, roughness as well as time of flight of ultrasound and optical pulses and optical thickness, which change with changing blood glucose concentrations. By measuring noninvasively absolute or relative changes in at least one dimension of at least one tissue or tissue layer or absolute or relative changes in time of flight of ultrasound or optical pulses, one can monitor blood glucose concentration noninvasively.

- 9. A system comprising an ultrasound or electromagnetic source, ultrasound or light delivery system, a system for detecting ultrasound or electromagnetic pulses or waves reflected or transmitted through a target tissue, an electronic system for recording and processing of said reflected or transmitted ultrasound or optical pulses or waves, calculating glucose concentration using time of flight of said reflected or transmitted ultrasound or optical pulses or calculating glucose concentration using measurement of at least one tissue dimension.

15. A method for noninvasive glucose sensing including the steps of:
-
irradiating a target tissue with short optical (near infrared, infrared, far infrared, visible, or UV light in the wavelength range from about 200 nanometers to about 100 microns), terahertz, microwave, or radiowave pulses; generating thermoelatically ultrasound in the irradiated target tissue;
measuring time of flight of the generated ultrasound or dimension of the target tissue and determining a glucose value from the time of flight in the target tissue or dimension of the target tissue in accordance with a time of flight or dimension versus glucose calibration curve. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18, 19)
