Abstract

A display controller which displays an electronic book and enables a user to perform intuitive operations when switching between pages to be displayed. A CPU detects a cursor position on the most frontally-displayed one of a plurality of pages in response to a user operation. Further, the CPU extracts respective areas of shapes dependent on the detected cursor position, from an image representing the most frontally-displayed page and an image representing a reverse page with respect to the most frontally-displayed page. Then, the CPU draws the extracted areas on the screen.

Claims

1. A display controller that controls display of an electronic book including a plurality of pages on a screen, comprising:

a detection unit configured to detect a position of a cursor on a most frontally-displayed page of the plurality of pages, in response to a user operation;

an extraction unit configured to extract respective areas of shapes dependent on the detected position of the cursor, from an image representing the most frontally-displayed page and an image representing a reverse page with respect to the most frontally-displayed page, respectively; and

a drawing unit configured to draw the extracted areas on the screen.

The display controller according to claim 1, wherein the drawing unit draws the image representing the reverse page and an image representing a page which is under the most frontally-displayed page, on the screen, using, as a boundary, a line perpendicular to a line connecting the position of the cursor and a predetermined position in the page under the most frontally-displayed page, the predetermined position being associated with the position of the cursor.

3. The display controller according to claim 1, wherein the detection unit also detects the position of the cursor on edges of the most frontally-displayed pages, and

wherein when the detection unit detects that the position of the cursor is on any of the edges, the drawing unit draws a state in which pages existing under the most frontally-displayed page are collectively and automatically moved.

4. The display controller according to claim 3, further comprising a calculation unit configured to calculate a distance from a page on which the cursor is positioned and is different from the most frontally-displayed page to the most frontally-displayed page, and

wherein if the calculated distance is not larger than a predetermined value, the drawing unit extracts and draws part of an image representing each of pages existing between the most frontally-displayed page and the different page on which the cursor is positioned, and then draws the different page on which the cursor is positioned, whereas if the calculated distance is larger than the predetermined value, the drawing unit draws the different page on which the cursor is positioned without drawing the part of the image representing each of the pages existing between the most frontally-displayed page and the different page on which the cursor is positioned.

5. A method of controlling display of an electronic book including a plurality of pages on a screen, comprising:

detecting a position of a cursor on a most frontally-displayed page of the plurality of pages, in response to a user operation;

extracting respective areas of shapes dependent on the detected position of the cursor, from an image representing the most frontally-displayed page and an image representing a reverse page with respect to the most frontally-displayed page, respectively; and

drawing the extracted areas on the screen.

6. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a program for causing a computer to execute a method of controlling display of an electronic book including a plurality of pages on a screen,

wherein the method comprises:

detecting a position of a cursor on a most frontally-displayed page of the plurality of pages, in response to a user operation;

extracting respective areas of shapes dependent on the detected position of the cursor, from an image representing the most frontally-displayed page and an image representing a reverse page with respect to the most frontally-displayed page, respectively; and

drawing the extracted areas on the screen.
