A recombinant nucleic acid comprising a promoter, being a native promoter from a Lactobacillus species or a functional variant or functional fragment thereof, operably linked to one or more open reading frames heterologous to the promoter, wherein the promoter is selected from the group consisting of the native promoters of genes of Lactobacillus, preferably of Lactobacillus rhamnosus, for:
