Abstract

A method and a system are capable of supporting a Quality of Service (QoS) service in a wireless communication system. The method for supporting the QoS service includes checking a service capability of an application; when the application provides a QoS service, requesting QoS configuration to a QoS server; and when receiving a QoS configuration response signal from the QoS server, checking whether QoS of the application is allocated, in the QoS configuration response signal.

Claims

1. A method for providing a Quality of Service (QoS) service in a mobile station of a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

checking a service capability of an application;

when the application provides a QoS service, requesting QoS configuration to a QoS server; and

when receiving a QoS configuration response signal from the QoS server, checking whether QoS of the application is allocated, in the QoS configuration response signal.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the requesting of the QoS configuration comprises:

when the application providing the QoS service among applications installed to the mobile station, requests the QoS configuration to a QoS configuration module, requesting the QoS configuration to the QoS server via a QoS Mashup Agent (QMA) of the QoS configuration module.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the requesting of the QoS configuration comprises:

when the application provides a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service, requesting the QoS configuration to the QoS server after negotiating with a peer of the communication about a service bandwidth and a codec.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the requesting of the QoS configuration comprises:

when the application provides a Video On Demand (VOD) service, requesting the QoS configuration to the QoS server after checking video/audio stream information.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the requesting of the QoS configuration comprises:

transmitting a QoS configuration request message comprising at least one of a Subscription IDentifier (SID), an application ID, a destination address, and application service information, to the QoS server.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the application service information comprises at least one of a required bit rate of the application, a maximum bit rate, an Allocation and Retention Priority (ARP), an optional QoS Class ID (QCI) value, and QoS information required to provide the service.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

when the QoS server allocates the QoS of the application, performing a session modification procedure with the QoS server.

8. A method for providing a Quality of Service (QoS) service of a mobile station in a QoS server of a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

when the mobile station requests QoS configuration for an application, determining whether to accept the QoS configuration request of the application; and

when accepting the QoS configuration request of the application, transmitting QoS configuration information to the mobile station.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

transmitting information of the application to the mobile station,

wherein, after transmitting the application information, whether the mobile station requests the QoS configuration of the application is determined, and

the application information comprises at least one of a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) comprising a transmission scheme of the application, a protocol, a URL version, a sequence number, a transmission protocol, and a port address.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein the QoS server is disposed in any one of a communication carrier which provides a communication service to the mobile station and a service provider which provides the application installed to the mobile station.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein the determining of whether to accept the QoS configuration request comprises:

determining whether to accept the QoS configuration request of the application by considering at least one of a Subscription IDentifier (SID), an application ID, a destination address, and application service information provided from the mobile station.

12. method of claim 11, wherein the application service information comprises at least one of a required bit rate of the application, a maximum bit rate, an Allocation and Retention Priority (ARP), an optional QoS Class ID (QCI) value, and QoS information required to provide the service.

13. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

after transmitting the QoS configuration information to the mobile station, performing a session modification procedure with the mobile station.

14. An apparatus for providing a Quality of Service (QoS) service in a mobile station of a wireless communication system, the apparatus comprising:

an application layer configured to check a service capability of an application; and

a QoS configuration module configured to;

in response to the application providing a QoS service, request QoS configuration to a QoS server, and

in response to receiving a QoS configuration response signal from the QoS server, check whether QoS of the application is allocated in the QoS configuration response signal.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein, in response to the application that provides the QoS service among applications installed to the application layer, requesting the QoS configuration, the QoS configuration module requests the QoS configuration to the QoS server via a QoS Mashup Agent (QMA).

The apparatus of claim 14, wherein, in response to the application installed to the application layer providing a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service, the QoS configuration module requests the QoS configuration to the QoS server after negotiating with a peer of the communication about a service bandwidth and a codec.

17. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein, in response to the application installed to the application layer providing a Video On Demand (VOD) service, the QoS configuration module requests the QoS configuration to the QoS server after checking video/audio stream information.

18. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the QoS configuration is configured to transmit a QoS configuration request message comprising at least one of a Subscription IDentifier (SID), an application ID, a destination address, and application service information, to the QoS server.

19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the application service information comprises at least one of a required bit rate of the application, a maximum bit rate, an Allocation and Retention Priority (ARP), an optional QoS Class ID (QCI) value, and QoS information required to provide the service.

20. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein, when the QoS server allocates the QoS of the application, the QoS configuration module performs a session modification procedure with the QoS server.

21. An apparatus for providing a Quality of Service (QoS) service of a mobile station in a QoS server of a wireless communication system, comprising:

a communication interface;

a QoS configurator configured to, in response to the mobile station requesting QoS configuration for an application, determine whether to accept the QoS configuration request of the application; and

a controller configured to, when accepting the QoS configuration request of the application, transmit QoS configuration information to the mobile station.

22. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the controller is configured to transmit information of the mobile station and the application, and

the application information comprises at least one of a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) comprising a transmission scheme of the application, a protocol, a URL version, a sequence number, a transmission protocol, and a port address.

23. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the QoS server is disposed in one of:

a communication carrier which provides a communication service to the mobile station; and

a service provider which provides the application installed to the mobile station.

24. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the QoS configurator is configured to determine whether to accept the QoS configuration request of the mobile station by considering at least one of:

a Subscription IDentifier (SID), an application ID, a destination address, and application service information provided from the mobile station.

25. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein the application service information comprises at least one of a required bit rate of the application, a maximum bit rate, an Allocation and Retention Priority (ARP), an optional QoS Class ID (QCI) value, and QoS information required to provide the service.

26. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein, after transmitting the QoS configuration information to the mobile station, the controller is configured to perform a session modification procedure with the mobile station.
