Abstract

A computer implemented method and system for generating secure universal object identifiers on a multipurpose storage system is disclosed. According to one embodiment, a system comprises a client system in communication with a network. An application server is in communication with the network. A storage cluster is in communication with the network. The storage cluster has a plurality of storage nodes. The client system stores a data object via the application server. The application server generates an object identifier assigned to the data object. The application server stores the data object on a storage node of the plurality of storage nodes. The data object is moved to another application server without moving contents of the data object in the storage cluster.

Claims

1. A system, comprising:

a client system in communication with a network;

an application server in communication with the network;

a storage cluster in communication with the network;

the storage cluster having a plurality of storage nodes;

wherein the client system stores a data object via the application server;

wherein the application server generates an object identifier assigned to the data object;

wherein the application server stores the data object on a storage node of the plurality of storage nodes; and

wherein the data object is moved to another application server without moving contents of the data object in the storage cluster.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein an object identifier comprises a unique key.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein the unique key identifies an originating entity.

4. The system of claim 2, wherein the unique key identifies an originating application.

5. The system of claim 2, wherein the unique key comprises a non-guessability algorithm.

6. The system of claim 2, wherein the unique key comprises revision information of the data object.

7. The system of claim 2, wherein the unique key comprises a payload field, a class of service field, a dispersion field, a checksum field, a revision field and a secret key field.

8. The system of claim 2, wherein the class of service field contains information to route the key over the distributed multipurpose storage system.

9. The system of claim 5 wherein the non-guessability algorithm comprises a hash algorithm.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein one or more replicas of the data object is generated by the client system and stored via the application server.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the object identifiers are generated by the application server and assigned to the replicas of the data object.

12. The system of claim 10, wherein the first application server stores the data objects and the replicas of the data objects to one of the storage nodes.

13. The system of claim 1, wherein the application server initiates a transaction intended for the data object and the replicas of the data object.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the transaction is one of put, get, or delete operations.

15. The system of claim 13, wherein the data object is retrieved from the storage node.

16. The system of claim 13, wherein the data object and the replicas of the data object are retrieved from the storage node.

17. The system of claim 1, wherein the network system is a Chord based network.
