Abstract

A method and apparatus for changing a page when an e-book terminal is inclined is provided. The method includes sensing that the e-book terminal is inclined to a left or right side, then changing a current page to a next page when the e-book terminal is inclined to the left side or changing the current page to a previous page when the e-book terminal is inclined to the right side.

Claims

1. A method of navigating e-book contents displayed in an e-book terminal, the method comprising:

sensing whether the e-book terminal is inclined to a first orientation or second orientation with respect to a reference angle; and

changing a current page to a next page when the e-book terminal is inclined to the left orientation or changing the current page to a previous page when the e-book terminal is inclined to the second orientation.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the changing of the current page to the next page when the e-book terminal is inclined to the first orientation or the changing of the current page to the previous page when the e-book terminal is inclined to the second orientation comprises:

changing a page at a speed in proportion to a degree of an angle at which the e-book terminal is inclined to the first orientation or second orientation.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the changing of the current page to the next page when the e-book terminal is inclined to the first orientation or the changing of the current page to the previous page when the e-book terminal is inclined to the second orientation comprises:

changing a page at speed corresponding to a predetermined range of angle at which the e-book terminal is inclined to the first orientation or second orientation.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the changing of the current page to the next page when the e-book terminal is inclined to the first orientation or the changing of the current page to the previous page when the e-book terminal is inclined to the second orientation comprises:

changing a page when an angle at which the e-book terminal is inclined to the first orientation or second orientation reaches a threshold value.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

stopping the page change for a predefined time period time when a current page is changed to the page including a predetermined item.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

highlighting a specific item included in a corresponding page.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

designating the reference angle as an angle at which the e-book terminal is activated to turn the e-book contents.

8. The method of claim 1, further providing at least one page index in the e-book content;

confirming whether the least one page index is selected and turning the e-book content within the selected page index according to a tilt angle of the e-book terminal; and

changing a current page to only a corresponding page until a selection of the index is released.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

stopping the changing of e-book contents displayed in an e-book terminal or bookmarking a corresponding page for a subsequent retrieval if a tilt angle of the e-book terminal inclined to the first orientation or second orientation exceeds a threshold value.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the sensing that the e-book terminal is inclined to the first orientation or second orientation comprises:

defining the reference angle with respect to a horizontal plane;

determining a relative tilt angle at which the e-book terminal is rotated with reference to the reference angle; and

determining that the e-book terminal is inclined to the first orientation when the relative tilt angle is rotated in a counterclockwise direction with respect to the reference angle, and determining that the e-book terminal is inclined to the second orientation when the relative tilt angle is rotated in a clockwise direction with respect to the reference tilt angle.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the changing of the current page to the next page when the e-book terminal is inclined to the first orientation or the changing of the current page to the previous page when the e-book terminal is inclined to the second orientation comprises:

changing a page when the relative tilt angle reaches a threshold value.

12. An apparatus for navigating e-book contents displayed in an e-book terminal, comprising:

a memory for storing displayed data;

a display unit for decoding the data stored in the memory and outputting an image signal;

an input unit for receiving an input signal for changing a page of the e-book contents output on the display unit;

a tilt sensor for outputting a tilt of the e-book terminal; and

a controller for sensing whether the e-book terminal is inclined to a first orientation or second orientation with respect to a reference angle, and changing a current page to a next page when the e-book terminal is inclined to the left orientation or changing the current page to a previous page when the e-book terminal is inclined to the second orientation.

13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the controller changes a page at a speed in proportion to a degree of an angle at which the e-book terminal is inclined to the first orientation or second orientation.

14. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the controller changes a page at speed corresponding to a predetermined range of angle at which the e-book terminal is inclined to the first orientation or second orientation.

15. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the controller changes a page when an angle at which the e-book terminal is inclined to the first orientation or second orientation reaches a threshold value.

16. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the controller stops the page change for a predefined time period time when a current page is changed to the page including a predetermined item.

17. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the controller highlights a specific item included in a corresponding page.

18. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the controller designates the reference angle as an angle at which the e-book terminal is activated to turn the e-book contents.

19. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the controller provides providing at least one page index in the e-book content, confirms whether the least one page index is selected and turning the e-book content within the selected page index according to a tilt angle of the e-book terminal, and changes a current page to only a corresponding page until a selection of the index is released.

The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the controller stops the changing of e-book contents displayed in an e-book terminal or bookmarking a corresponding page for a subsequent retrieval if a tilt angle of the e-book terminal inclined to the first orientation or second orientation exceeds a threshold value.

The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the controller defines the reference angle with respect to a horizontal plane, determines a relative tilt angle at which the e-book terminal is rotated with reference to the reference angle, and determines that the e-book terminal is inclined to the first orientation when the relative tilt angle is rotated in a counterclockwise direction with respect to the reference angle, and determining that the e-book terminal is inclined to the second orientation when the relative tilt angle is rotated in a clockwise direction with respect to the reference tilt angle.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the controller changes a page when the relative tilt angle reaches a threshold value.
