Abstract

An LED switch device and a matrix thereof are disclosed. There is an electroluminescent semiconductor element with a first polarity contact and a second polarity contact. There is also a first polarity LED lead frame, to which the electroluminescent semiconductor element is mounted. The first polarity contact of the electroluminescent semiconductor element is electrically connected to the first polarity LED lead frame. The LED switch device has a second polarity LED lead frame electrically connected to the second polarity contact of the electroluminescent semiconductor element. The LED switch device also has a touch sensor lead frame that is electrically connected to a touch sensor lead.

Claims

1. A light emitting diode switch device, comprising:

a first polarity lead;

at least one electroluminescent semiconductor element with a first polarity contact and a second polarity contact;

a first polarity LED lead frame with the at least one electroluminescent semiconductor element mounted thereto with the first polarity contact thereof electrically connected to the first polarity lead;

a second polarity lead;

a second polarity LED lead frame electrically connected to the second polarity lead, the second polarity lead being electrically connected to the second polarity contact of the electroluminescent semiconductor element;

a first touch sensor lead;

a first touch sensor lead frame electrically connected to the first touch sensor lead;

wherein the second polarity lead is connectible to an light emitting diode driver source, and the first touch sensor lead is connectible to a touch sensor controller input.

2. The light emitting diode switch device of claim 1, further comprising:

an at least partially translucent case encapsulating the electroluminescent semiconductor element, the first polarity lead frame, the second polarity lead frame, and the first touch sensor lead frame.

3. The light emitting diode switch device of claim 2, further comprising:

a first touch sensor contact electrically connected to the first touch sensor lead frame.

4. The light emitting diode switch device of claim 3, wherein the first touch sensor contact extends substantially around the circumference of the case.

5. The light emitting diode switch device of claim 3, further comprising:

a second touch sensor lead;

a second touch sensor contact; and

a second touch sensor lead frame electrically connected to the second touch sensor lead.

6. The light emitting diode switch device of claim 5, wherein the first touch sensor contact extends around a first subsection of the case and the second touch sensor contact extends around a second subsection of the case.

7. The light emitting diode switch device of claim 2, wherein the case is incorporated into a surface mount device (SMD) package.

8. The light emitting diode switch device of claim 2, wherein the case is a through-hole package.

9. The light emitting diode switch device of claim 1, wherein the first touch sensor lead frame is disconnected from the electroluminescent semiconductor element.

10. The light emitting diode switch device of claim 1, wherein a first one of the electroluminescent semiconductor elements corresponds to a first visible spectrum wavelength emission and a second one of the electroluminescent semiconductor elements corresponds to a second visible spectrum wavelength emission different from the first visible spectrum wavelength emission.

11. The light emitting diode switch device of claim 1, wherein:

the first polarity lead is a cathode connectible to a negative common; and

the second polarity lead is an anode.

12. The light emitting diode switch device of claim 1, wherein:

the first polarity lead is an anode connectible to a positive common; and

the second polarity lead is a cathode.

13. A combination input and output device, comprising:

a light emitting diode driver integrated circuit including a plurality of independent output lines;

a touch input controller integrated circuit including a plurality of independent input lines; and

an array of light emitting diode switch devices each including;

a first electroluminescent semiconductor element electrically connected to a one of the plurality of independent output lines of the light emitting diode driver integrated circuit; and

a first integrated touch sensor lead electrically connected to a one of the plurality of independent input lines of the touch input controller integrated circuit;

wherein the first electroluminescent semiconductor element and the first integrated touch sensor lead is encapsulated into a case.

14. The combination input and output device of claim 13, wherein each of the light emitting diode switch device includes:

a first polarity lead frame with the first electroluminescent semiconductor element mounted thereto;

a plurality of second polarity lead frames, a one of a first subset of the plurality of second polarity lead frames being electrically connected to the one of the plurality of independent output lines of the light emitting diode driver integrated circuit, and a one of a second subset of the plurality of second polarity lead frames being electrically connected to the one of the plurality of independent input lines of the touch input controller integrated circuit; and

wherein the one of the first subset of the plurality of first polarity lead frames is electrically connected to the first electroluminescent semiconductor element.

15. The combination input and output device of claim 13, further comprising:

a second electroluminescent semiconductor element mounted to the first polarity lead frame.

16. The combination input and output device of claim 13, further comprising:

a second integrated touch sensor lead electrically connected to a different one of the plurality of independent input lines of the touch input controller.

17. The combination input and output device of claim 13, wherein a touch input corresponds to a changing capacitance value of the first integrated touch sensor lead as detected by the touch input controller integrated circuit.

18. The combination input and output device of claim 13, further comprising:

a data processing device electrically connected to the touch input controller integrated circuit and the light emitting diode driver integrated circuit, the data processing device being programmed with executable instructions for generating outputs to the light emitting diode driver integrated circuit in response to inputs from the touch input controller integrated circuit.

19. A light emitting diode switch device, comprising:

an electroluminescent semiconductor element with a first polarity contact and a second polarity contact;

a first polarity lead frame with the electroluminescent semiconductor element mounted thereto with the first polarity contact thereof electrically connected to the first polarity lead frame;

a second polarity lead frame electrically connected to the second polarity contact of the electroluminescent semiconductor element;

a touch sensor lead frame; and

a touch sensor contact electrically connected to the touch sensor lead frame.

20. The light emitting diode switch device of claim 19, wherein:

the second polarity lead frame is connectible to a light emitting diode driver source; and

the touch sensor lead frame is connectible to a touch sensor controller input.
