Abstract

Methods and devices for selectively presenting a user interface on a second screen. More particularly, the method includes a change in the display mode of a multiple screen device from a first screen to a second screen while the device is closed. The change in the display mode may be made in response to one or more actions conducted by a user in a gesture capture region. The actions can include tapping the device in the gesture capture region. The actions can also include further input received in a window provided in response to the taps in the gesture capture region.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

providing a device having at least first and second screens, wherein the device is in a closed state, and wherein, in the closed state, the first and second screens face opposite directions;

in a first display mode, presenting a first window on a first screen;

receiving an input from in a gesture capture region, wherein the input requests a switch to a second display mode, wherein the second display mode includes displaying a display on the second screen;

in response to the input, switching to the second screen; and

presenting the first window on the second screen.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the input includes at least one tap in the gesture capture region.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the input includes a sequence of two or more taps in the gesture capture region.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein, in response to the sequence of two or more taps in the gesture capture region, presenting a window in the first screen, wherein the window requests user input to acknowledge a desire to switch to the second screen.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein a user selects a first user interface device in the window to acknowledge the desire to switch to the second screen.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein a user selects a second user interface device in the window to cancel the switch to the second screen.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein further input is received outside the gesture capture region to request the switch to the second screen

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the gesture capture region is on a first screen.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising determining a state of the phone.

11. A device, comprising:

a first screen, the first screen including a first gesture capture region;

a second screen, wherein the second screen faces an opposite direction from the first screen when the device is closed, wherein in a first display mode the first screen is in view of the user, wherein the second screen includes a second gesture capture region;

a memory;

a processor in communication with the memory, the first screen, and the second screen, the processor operable to;

in a first display mode, present a first window on the first screen;

receive an input from at least one of the first or second gesture capture region, wherein the input requests a switch to a second display mode, wherein the second display mode includes displaying a display on the second screen;

in response to the input, switching to the second screen; and

presenting the display on the second screen.

12. The device of claim 11, wherein the input includes at least one tap in at least one of the first or second gesture capture region.

13. The device of claim 12, wherein the input is a sequence of two or more taps in at least one of the first or second gesture capture region.

14. The device of claim 13, wherein, in response to the sequence of two or more taps in at least one of the first or second gesture capture region, presenting a window in the first screen, wherein the window requests user input to acknowledge a desire to switch to the second screen.

15. The device of claim 14, wherein a user selects a first user interface device in the window to acknowledge the desire to switch to the second screen.

16. A computer readable medium having stored thereon computer-executable instructions, the computer executable instructions causing a processor of a device to execute a method for providing a user interface, wherein the device has at least first and second screens, wherein the device is in a closed state, and wherein, in the closed state, the first and second screens face opposite directions, the computer-executable instructions comprising:

receiving an input from a gesture capture region, wherein the input requests a switch to a second display mode, wherein the second display mode includes displaying a display on the second screen, wherein the input includes a sequence of at least two taps in the gesture capture region by the user;

in response to the input, switching to the second screen; and

presenting a first window on the second screen.

17. The computer readable medium of claim 16, wherein the gesture capture region is associated with the first screen.

18. The computer readable medium of claim 16, wherein, in response to the sequence of two or more taps in the gesture capture region, presenting a window in the first screen, wherein the window requests user input to acknowledge a desire to switch to the second screen.

19. The computer readable medium of claim 18, wherein a user selects a first user interface device in the window to acknowledge the desire to switch to the second screen and wherein a user selects a second user interface device in the window to cancel the switch to the second screen.

20. The computer readable medium of claim 16, wherein further input is received outside the gesture capture region to request the switch to the second screen.
