1. An electronic reader, comprising:

  • a touch display screen configured for receiving user inputs and displaying a keypad, the keypad comprising a plurality of first keys and a plurality of second keys, the keypad selectively operable between a pinyin mode where the first keys display letters a to z, and a Chinese character mode where the first keys display Chinese characters; and

    a processing unit configured for;

    controlling the electronic reader to enter the Pinyin mode whereby the first keys display letters a to z;

    controlling the touch display screen to display an intended pinyin inputted by a user on one of the second keys;

    activating the keypad to enter into the Chinese character mode whereby according to the input of the pinyin and displaying a plurality of possible Chinese characters on the first keys, the possible Chinese characters having a similar pronunciation of the inputted pinyin;

    selecting a Chinese character from the possible Chinese characters displayed on the first keys in response to a touch by a user on a first key associated therewith; and

    displaying the selected Chinese character in an entry field displayed on the touch display screen.
