Abstract

A grout for filing a micro-trench formed in the ground includes comprises Class F fly ash in a range of approximately 0 to 30% by weight of grout and cement kiln dust in a range of approximately 50 to 90% by weight of grout.

Claims

1. A method of installing at least one item below a ground surface, comprising:

forming an opening in the ground surface;

creating a micro-trench such that it extends from the ground surface through at least a portion of an aggregate sub base below the ground surface;

inserting at least one conduit into said micro-trench such that said conduit is disposed below the ground surface; and

filling said micro-trench with a grout material, including class F fly ash in a range of approximately 0 to 30% by weight of said gout material and cement kiln dust in a range of approximately 50 to 90% by weight of said grout material;

whereby said grout material encapsulates and protects said at least one conduit.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

placing a sealer on top of said grout material to substantially match said ground surface.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

inserting at least one cable into said conduit after said grout material has been placed in said micro-trench.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein said at least one cable is inserted into said conduit by vacuum pulling.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein said at least one cable is a fiber optic cable.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein said grout material includes a mid-range water reducer.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein said mid-range water reducer is naphthalene.

8. The method of claim 6, wherein said mid-range water reducer is lignosulphonate.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein said grout material is a dry grout mixture to which a mid-range water reducer is added in an amount of approximately 0.1-12 fluid ounce equivalent per hundred-weight of said dry grout mixture.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein said grout material includes a dry sodium hydroxide material.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein said dry sodium hydroxide material is added in an amount of approximately 0.1-19 dry ounces per hundred weight of dry grout mixture.

12. A method of installing at least one item below a ground surface, comprising:

cutting through pavement disposed on the ground surface;

creating a micro-trench such that an opening extends from said ground surface into at least a portion of an aggregate sub base;

inserting at least one conduit into said micro-trench;

filling said micro-trench with a grout material, including class F fly ash in a range of approximately 0 to 30% by weight of said gout material and cement kiln dust in a range of approximately 50 to 90% by weight of said grout material;

allowing said grout material to harden and consolidate into voids in said pavement and said aggregate sub base to provide structural stability to any defects in said pavement and said aggregate sub base; and

placing an asphaltic sealer on top of said grout material to substantially match a surface of said pavement.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein said grout material is formed by mixing a single dry grout mixture with approximately five gallons of water per approximately 70 pounds of said single dry grout mixture;

14. The method of claim 12, further comprising:

inserting at least one cable into said conduit after said grout material has been placed in said micro-trench and has hardened.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein said at least one cable is inserted into said conduit by vacuum pulling.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein said at least one cable is a fiber optic cable.

17. The method of claim 12, wherein said grout material includes a mid-range water reducer.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein said mid-range water reducer is naphthalene.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein said mid-range water reducer is lignosulphonate.

20. The method of claim 17, wherein said mid-range water reducer is added in an amount of approximately 0.1-12 fluid ounce equivalent per hundred-weight of dry grout mixture.

21. The method of claim 12, wherein said grout material includes a dry sodium hydroxide material.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein said dry sodium hydroxide material is added in an amount of approximately 0.1-19 dry ounces per hundred weight of dry grout mixture.

23. A method of installing at least one item below a ground surface, comprising:

cutting through pavement disposed on the ground surface;

creating a micro-trench such that an opening extends from said pavement into at least a portion of an aggregate sub base;

inserting at least one conduit into said micro-trench;

filling said micro-trench with a grout material, including class F fly ash in a range of approximately 0 to 30% by weight of said gout material and cement kiln dust in a range of approximately 50 to 90% by weight of said grout material;

allowing said grout material to harden and consolidate into voids in said pavement and said aggregate sub base to provide structural stability to any defects in said pavement and said aggregate sub base; and

.

vacuum pulling at least one cable into said at least one conduit.

24. The method of claim 23, further comprising:

placing a sealer on top of said grout material to substantially match the pavement.

25. The method of claim 23, wherein said at least one cable is a fiber optic cable.

26. The method of claim 23, wherein said grout material includes a mid-range water reducer.

27. The method of claim 26, wherein said mid-range water reducer is naphthalene.

28. The method of claim 26, wherein said mid-range water reducer is lignosulphonate.

30. The method of claim 23, wherein said grout material includes dry sodium hydroxide material.

31. The method of claim 30, wherein said dry sodium hydroxide material is added in an amount approximately 0.1-19 dry ounces per hundred weight of dry grout mixture.

29. The method of 26, wherein said mid-range water reducer is added in an amount of approximately 0.1-12 fluid ounce equivalent per hundred-weight of dry grout mixture.
