Abstract

A wireless device including at least a first and second antenna and at least one processor may process signals received from a first wireless system (TD-SCDMA, GSM, TDD-LTE) exclusively on the first antenna, and may process signals received from a second wireless system (FDD, CDMA, WCDMA, LTE, TDMA) on the first and second antennas using receive diversity. According to aspects, the device may process signals transmitted from the first wireless system exclusively on the second antenna.

Claims

1. A wireless device, comprising:

at least first and second antennas; and

at least one processor for

processing signals received from a first wireless system exclusively on the first antenna, and

processing signals received from a second wireless system on the first and second antennas using receive diversity.

2. The wireless device of claim 1, further comprising:

processing signals transmitted from the first wireless system exclusively on the second antenna.

3. The wireless device of claim 1, wherein the first wireless system comprises at least one of:

Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA), Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), and Time-Division Duplex Long-Term Evolution (TDD-LTE).

4. The wireless device of claim 1, wherein the second wireless system comprises at least one of:

Frequency Division Duplex (FDD), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA), Long-Term Evolution (LTE), and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA).

5. The wireless device of claim 1, further comprising a first switch coupled to the first antenna and a second switch coupled to the second antenna to selectively complete the receive path of the first and second wireless systems based on an operating mode of the wireless device.

6. The wireless device of claim 1, wherein:

the wireless device is configured to operate in a first mode when processing signals received from the second wireless system; and

the wireless device is configured to select a filter path for reception on the first antenna which corresponds to a same frequency band as a filter path selected for reception on the second antenna.

7. The wireless device of claim 6, wherein the wireless device is configured to switch to a second mode when processing signals received from the first wireless system.

8. The wireless device of claim 7, wherein the wireless device is configured to:

in the first mode, utilize a first switch in a first antenna module coupled to the first antenna and a second switch in a second antenna module coupled to the second antenna; and

in the second mode, utilize the first switch in the first antenna module in a different manner than in the first mode.

9. The wireless device of claim 8, wherein the first and second antenna modules each comprise at least one switch and a plurality of filters corresponding to different frequency bands.

10. A wireless device, comprising:

at least first and second antennas; and

means for processing signals received from a first wireless system exclusively on the first antenna, and

means for processing signals received from a second wireless system on the first and second antennas using receive diversity.

11. The wireless device of claim 10, further comprising:

means for processing signals transmitted from the first wireless system exclusively on the second antenna.

12. The wireless device of claim 10, wherein the first wireless system comprises at least one of:

Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA), Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), and Time-Division Duplex Long-Term Evolution (TDD-LTE).

13. The wireless device of claim 10, wherein the second wireless system comprises at least one of:

Frequency Division Duplex (FDD), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA), Long-Term Evolution (LTE), and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA).

14. The wireless device of claim 10, further comprising a first switch coupled to the first antenna and a second switch coupled to the second antenna and means for selectively completing the receive path of the first and second wireless systems based on an operating mode of the wireless device.

15. The wireless device of claim 10, further comprising:

means for operating in a first mode when processing signals received from the second wireless system; and

means for selecting a filter path for reception on the first antenna which corresponds to a same frequency band as a filter path selected for reception on the second antenna.

16. The wireless device of claim 15, further comprising:

means for switching to a second mode when processing signals received from the first wireless system.

17. The wireless device of claim 16, further comprising:

in the first mode, means for utilizing a first switch in a first antenna module coupled to the first antenna and a second switch in a second antenna module coupled to the second antenna; and

in the second mode, means for utilizing the first switch in the first antenna module in a different manner than in the first mode.

18. The wireless device of claim 17, wherein the first and second antenna modules each comprise at least one switch and a plurality of filters corresponding to different frequency bands.

19. A user equipment comprising:

at least first and second antennas; and

a radio frequency (RF) unit configured to;

process signals received from a first wireless system exclusively on the first antenna, and

process signals received from a second wireless system on the first and second antennas using receive diversity.

20. The user equipment of claim 19, wherein the RF unit is further configured to:

process signals transmitted from the first wireless system exclusively on the second antenna.

21. The user equipment of claim 19, wherein the first wireless system comprises at least one of:

Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA), Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), and Time-Division Duplex Long-Term Evolution (TDD-LTE).

22. The user equipment of claim 19, wherein the second wireless system comprises at least one of:

Frequency Division Duplex (FDD), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA), Long-Term Evolution (LTE), and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA).

23. The user equipment of claim 19, further comprising a first switch coupled to the first antenna and a second switch coupled to the second antenna and selectively completing the receive path of the first and second wireless systems based on an operating mode of the wireless device.

24. The user equipment of claim 19, wherein the RF unit is configured to:

process signals received from the second wireless system in a first mode; and

select a filter path for reception on the first antenna which corresponds to a same frequency band as a filter path selected for reception on the second antenna.

25. The user equipment of claim 24, wherein the RF unit is further configured to:

switch to a second mode when processing signals received from the first wireless system.

26. The user equipment of claim 25, wherein the RF unit is further configured to:

in the first mode, utilize a first switch in a first antenna module coupled to the first antenna and a second switch in a second antenna module coupled to the second antenna; and

in the second mode, utilize the first switch in the first antenna module in a different manner than in the first mode.

27. The user equipment of claim 26, wherein the first and second antenna modules each comprise at least one switch and a plurality of filters corresponding to different frequency bands.
