1. A method performed by a mobile communication device, the method comprising:
- transmitting a voice communication, by the mobile communication device, over a wireless communication link;
providing, by the mobile communication device, a first mode allowing wireless communication and allowing local function of the mobile communication device;
providing, by the mobile communication device, a second mode disabling the wireless communication and maintaining the local function of the mobile communication device; and
transmitting, by the mobile communication device over the wireless communication link, a notification message to another device in response to receiving user input, the notification message notifying the another device that the mobile communication device is switching from the first mode to the second mode.

Abstract
A method and apparatus for disabling the communication functionality (i.e., disabling the transmission and/or reception of RF signals) of an integrated device, while still providing access to the local functionality of such device. A control and select function, such as a switch that is implemented by hardware or software or a combination thereof, is provided in an integrated device to allow the end user of the device to access the local data processing functionality of the device, even while the wireless communication functionality of such device is disabled.
