Abstract

A method for viewing a collection of images or videos, includes analyzing the collection to determine properties of the images or videos and using the determined properties to produce icons corresponding to such properties; providing a time-varying display of the images or videos in the collection following an ordering of the images or videos in the collection and at least one of the corresponding icons; receiving a user selection of an icon; and changing the display of the images or videos in the collection following a reordering of the images or videos in the collection in response to the user selection.

Claims

1. A method for viewing a collection of images or videos, comprising:

(a) analyzing the collection to determine properties of the images or videos and using the determined properties to produce icons corresponding to such properties;

(b) providing a time-varying display of the images or videos in the collection following an ordering of the images or videos in the collection and at least one of the corresponding icons;

(c) receiving a user selection of an icon; and

(d) changing the time-varying display of the images or videos in the collection following a reordering of the images or videos in the collection in response to the user selection.

2. A method for viewing a collection of images or video, comprising:

(a) analyzing the collection to determine properties of the images or videos and using the determined properties to produce icons corresponding to such properties;

(b) providing a time-varying display of the images or videos in the collection following an ordering of the images or videos in the collection and at least one of the corresponding icons;

(c) receiving a user selection of an icon;

(d) changing the display of the images or videos in the collection following a reordering of the images or videos in the collection in response to the user selection;

(e) updating the displayed corresponding icons in response to the user selection; and

(f) repeating steps (c) through (e).

6. The method of claim 2 further including storing the time-varying display of images or videos in the collection in a processor accessible memory.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein the stored time-varying display of images or videos is used to produce a movie, photo pages, or a photo book.

8. The method of claim 2 wherein the time-varying display of images or videos in the collection is presented as page layouts of images or videos with transition effects.

9. The method of claim 2 wherein the time-varying display of images or videos in the collection is presented with accompanying music responsive to the user selection of people, time, location, or event.

3. A method for viewing a collection of images or video, comprising:

(a) analyzing the collection to determine properties of the images or videos and using the determined properties to produce icons corresponding to such properties;

(b) providing a time-varying display of the images or videos in the collection following an ordering of the images or videos in the collection based on a predetermined property and also displaying at least one of the corresponding icons;

(c) receiving a user selection of an icon;

(d) changing the display of the images or videos in the collection following a reordering of the images or videos in the collection in response to the user selection;

(e) updating the displayed corresponding icons in response to the user selection; and

(f) repeating steps (c) through (e).

10. The method of claim 3 further including storing the time-varying display of images or videos in the collection in a processor accessible memory.

11. The method of claim 10 wherein the stored time-varying display of images or videos is used to produce a movie, photo pages, or a photo book.

12. The method of claim 10 wherein the stored time-varying display of images or videos is transmitted over a communication network.

13. The method of claim 3 wherein the time-varying display of images or videos in the collection is presented as page layouts of images or videos with transition effects.

14. The method of claim 3 wherein the time-varying display of images or videos in the collection is presented with accompanying music responsive to the user selection of people, time, location, or event.

4. A method for viewing a collection of images or video, comprising:

(a) analyzing the collection to determine properties of the images or videos and using the determined properties to produce icons corresponding to such properties;

(b) ranking the images or videos in the collection according to a predetermined property;

(c) providing a time-varying display of the images or videos in the collection following the ranking of the images or videos in the collection based on the predetermined property and also displaying at least one of the corresponding icons;

(d) receiving a user selection of an icon;

(e) re-ranking the images or videos in the collection according to the property corresponding to the user selection;

(f) changing the display of the images or videos in the collection following the re-ranking of the images or videos in the collection;

(g) updating the displayed corresponding icons in response to the user selection; and

(h) repeating steps (d) through (g).

5. The method of claim 4 wherein the re-ranking in step (e) is also responsive to prior user selections.

15. The method of claim 4 further including storing the time-varying display of images or videos in the collection in a processor accessible memory.

16. The method of claim 15 wherein the stored time-varying display of images or videos is used to produce a movie, photo pages, or a photo book.

17. The method of claim 15 wherein the stored time-varying display of images or videos is transmitted over a communication network.

18. The method of claim 4 wherein the time-varying display of images or videos in the collection is presented as page layouts of images or videos with transition effects.

19. The method of claim 4 wherein the time-varying display of images or videos in the collection is presented with accompanying music responsive to the user selection of people, time, location, or event.
