Abstract

This provides for controlling mobile device functions and features. For example, it limits or disables the use of some of mobile device features which could cause distraction to the user, when the user is engaged in another activity. In an example, it enables other mobile device features based on occurrence of events related to the user or environment. Another example addresses controlling the mobile device features, such as SMS, while the user is in a vehicle or driving. Another example restricts the ability of the driver of a vehicle to text, while the vehicle is in motion, by automatically disabling the texting ability of mobile device within and around the perimeter of the driver'"'"'s seat. Other variations, examples, improvements, detection mechanisms, models, techniques, calculations, verification mechanisms, and features are also described in details.

Claims

1. A method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device, said method comprising:

a first network element receiving or determining an identification for a first mobile communication device, to modify a first set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication corresponding to said first mobile communication device, when said first mobile communication device receives a code from a short-range wireless transmitter within an in-range vicinity of said short-range wireless transmitter;

modifying one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication for said first mobile communication device corresponding to said first set of one or more functions or available choices;

a second network element receiving an availability indicator of a second mobile communication device for delegation of a second set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication;

determining a third set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication based on said first set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication and said second set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication and based on one or more forwarding or delegation rules; and

forwarding or delegating said third set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication corresponding to said first mobile communication device to said second mobile communication device, via a wireless network.

2. The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, wherein said first network element operates or is within a network corresponding to a voice or data service provider.

3. The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, wherein said first network element is same as said second network element.

The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, wherein said first set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication is a subset of said second set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication.

The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, wherein said second set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication is a subset of said first set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication.

6. The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, wherein said third set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication is a subset of a combination of said first set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication and said second set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication.

7. The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, wherein said step of modifying one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication for said first mobile communication device corresponds to an expiration time.

8. The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, wherein said second mobile communication device is a hands-free device.

9. The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 8, wherein said hands-free device is associated with a vehicle.

10. A method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device, said method comprising:

transmitting a first code from a first short-range wireless transmitter to a first mobile communication device within a first in-range vicinity of said first short-range wireless transmitter;

receiving a first identification corresponding to said first mobile communication device from said first mobile communication device;

sending a modification indicator to a data or voice service provider to modify a first set of one or more functions or available choices for said first mobile communication device;

transmitting a second code from a second short-range wireless transmitter to a second mobile communication device within a second in-range vicinity of said second short-range wireless transmitter; and

sending an availability indicator of a second mobile communication device for delegation of a second set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication;

wherein a third set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication corresponding to said first mobile communication device is delegated or forwarded to said second mobile communication device, via a wireless network.

11. The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 10, wherein a local controller controls communications via said first short-range wireless transmitter and said second short-range wireless transmitter.

12. The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 10, wherein said first short-range wireless transmitter or said second short-range wireless transmitter is a transceiver.

13. The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 10, wherein said availability indicator is received by a local controller.

14. The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 10, wherein said availability indicator is sent to said data or voice service provider.

15. The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 10, wherein said availability indicator is received via a wireless link.

16. The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 10, wherein said modification indicator is sent by a local controller.

17. The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 10, wherein said modification indicator is sent by said first mobile communication device.

18. The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 10, further comprising:

a local controller communicating with a third mobile communication device.

The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 18, wherein a fourth set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication corresponding to said first mobile communication device is delegated or forwarded to said third mobile communication device.

The method for delegating one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 19, wherein said fourth set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication is based on said first set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication and said second set of one or more functions or available choices related to data or voice communication.
