Abstract

This provides for controlling mobile device functions and features. For example, it limits or disables the use of some of mobile device features which could cause distraction to the user, when the user is engaged in another activity. In an example, it enables other mobile device features based on occurrence of events related to the user or environment. Another example addresses controlling the mobile device features, such as SMS, while the user is in a vehicle or driving. Another example restricts the ability of the driver of a vehicle to text, while the vehicle is in motion, by automatically disabling the texting ability of mobile device within and around the perimeter of the driver'"'"'s seat. Other variations, examples, improvements, detection mechanisms, models, techniques, calculations, verification mechanisms, and features are also described in details.

Claims

1. A method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device, said method comprising:

a first antenna of said mobile communication device receiving or transmitting voice or data communication via a wireless network;

first module receiving a first code from a short-range wireless transmitter at an in-range vicinity of said short-range wireless transmitter via a second antenna or detector;

wherein said first module runs in said mobile communication device and said short-range wireless transmitter is outside of said first mobile communication device;

determining a first signal power level or range indicator, based on a first wireless signal detected by said second antenna or detector from said short-range wireless transmitter;

in case said first code indicates an in-range status and said first signal power level or range indicator indicates a modification or deactivation range, modifying a first set of one or more functions or available choices related to said voice or data communication corresponding to said mobile communication device;

receiving one or more parameters from a database, processor, input module, network, or sensor;

dynamically modifying said first set of one or more functions or available choices related to said voice or data communication corresponding to said mobile communication device, based on said one or more parameters.

2. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, said method comprising:

changing one or more operational settings.

3. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 2, said method comprising:

changing how often a signal is transmitted by a transceiver.

4. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, said method comprising:

configuring one or more operational settings via a control panel.

5. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, said method comprising:

configuring one or more operational settings via a user interface in a car.

6. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, said method comprising:

receiving an event indicator triggering said step of dynamically modifying said first set of one or more functions or available choices related to said voice or data communication.

7. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, said method comprising:

extending or reducing a time period for maintaining a feature modification.

8. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, said method comprising:

tracking a remaining time period for maintaining a feature modification.

9. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, said method comprising:

periodically checking a status of a parameter.

10. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, said method comprising:

checking an expiration time.

11. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, said method comprising:

receiving information about a position or coordinate of a vehicle.

12. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, said method comprising:

applying a feature modification based on current locality, local rules, jurisdiction, state, country, city, highway, street, geography, terrain, or neighborhood.

13. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, said method comprising:

applying a feature modification based on time, year, or season.

14. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, said method comprising:

applying a feature modification based on a type of a vehicle.

15. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, said method comprising:

applying a feature modification based on an attribute of a driver or passenger.

16. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, said method comprising:

applying a feature modification based on a person'"'"'s age, occupation, health, or legal exemptions.

17. The method for dynamic configuration of one or more functions or available choices for a mobile communication device as recited in claim 1, said method comprising:

applying a feature modification based on environmental conditions, weather, humidity, rain, temperature, or ice.

applying a rule priority on feature modification.

executing a rule-based engine.

running a background task for a processor.
