Abstract

A method is provided in one embodiment and includes establishing a communication session involving a first endpoint and a second endpoint that are associated with a video conference in a network environment. The first endpoint is associated with a first identifier and the second endpoint is associated with a second identifier. The method also includes evaluating first audio data for the first endpoint, and determining a vocative parameter associated with the first audio data, where image data can be rendered on a user interface at the first endpoint based on the detecting of the vocative parameter.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

establishing a communication session involving a first endpoint and a second endpoint that are associated with a video conference in a network environment, the first endpoint being associated with a first identifier and the second endpoint being associated with a second identifier;

evaluating first audio data for the first endpoint; and

determining a vocative parameter associated with the first audio data, wherein image data is rendered on a user interface at the first endpoint based on the detecting of the vocative parameter.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the first audio data is evaluated in order to identify a proper name associated with the second endpoint.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the first audio data is evaluated in order to identify location data associated with the second endpoint.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the vocative parameter is indicated by a falling intonation speech pattern identified in the first audio data.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein a listing of proper names is provisioned in conjunction with establishing the video conference, and wherein the evaluating of the first audio data includes identifying at least one of the proper names.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

switching video streams for particular displays of the video conference based on the vocative parameter.

The method of claim 1, wherein a host of the video conference can elect to enable a vocative parameter mode in which vocative parameters are systematically evaluated during the video conference, and wherein the host can manually provision switching of video streams for rendering image data on specific endpoints involved in the video conference.

8. Logic encoded in non-transitory media that includes code for execution and when executed by a processor operable to perform operations comprising:

establishing a communication session involving a first endpoint and a second endpoint that are associated with a video conference in a network environment, the first endpoint being associated with a first identifier and the second endpoint being associated with a second identifier;

evaluating first audio data for the first endpoint; and

determining a vocative parameter associated with the first audio data, wherein image data is rendered on a user interface at the first endpoint based on the detecting of the vocative parameter.

9. The logic of claim 8, wherein the first audio data is evaluated in order to identify a proper name associated with the second endpoint.

10. The logic of claim 8, wherein the first audio data is evaluated in order to identify location data associated with the second endpoint.

11. The logic of claim 8, wherein the vocative parameter is indicated by a falling intonation speech pattern identified in the first audio data.

12. The logic of claim 8, wherein a listing of proper names is provisioned in conjunction with establishing the video conference, and wherein the evaluating of the first audio data includes identifying at least one of the proper names.

13. The logic of claim 8, the operations further comprising:

switching video streams for particular displays of the video conference based on the vocative parameter.

14. The logic of claim 8, wherein a host of the video conference can elect to enable a vocative parameter mode in which vocative parameters are systematically evaluated during the video conference, and wherein the host can manually provision switching of video streams for rendering image data on specific endpoints involved in the video conference.

15. An apparatus, comprising:

a memory element configured to store electronic code,

a processor operable to execute instructions associated with the electronic code, and

a vocative detector module configured to interface with the processor and further configured for;

establishing a communication session involving a first endpoint and a second endpoint that are associated with a video conference in a network environment, the first endpoint being associated with a first identifier and the second endpoint being associated with a second identifier;

evaluating first audio data for the first endpoint; and

determining a vocative parameter associated with the first audio data, wherein image data is rendered on a user interface at the first endpoint based on the detecting of the vocative parameter.

16. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the first audio data is evaluated in order to identify a proper name associated with the second endpoint.

17. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the first audio data is evaluated in order to identify location data associated with the second endpoint.

18. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the vocative parameter is indicated by a falling intonation speech pattern identified in the first audio data.

19. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein a listing of proper names is provisioned in conjunction with establishing the video conference, and wherein the evaluating of the first audio data includes identifying at least one of the proper names.

20. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein a host of the video conference can elect to enable a vocative parameter mode in which vocative parameters are systematically evaluated during the video conference, and wherein the host can manually provision switching of video streams for rendering image data on specific endpoints involved in the video conference.
