Abstract

A method for improving the responsiveness of a client application by providing that application with a local database which is a replicated subset of a database held on a remote server.

Claims

1. A method for improving the responsiveness of a client application by providing that application with a local database which is a replicated subset of a database held on a remote server.

2. The method of claim 1 where the local database is supplied pre-packaged with the client application installer.

3. The method of claim 1 where the client application installer downloads a pre-prepared local database from the server.

4. The method of claim 1 where data items in the local database have associated expiration points.

6. The method of claim 1 where the remote server maintains a record of which data is stored on each client installation along with expiration metadata for that said data.

10. The method of claim 1 where the client application is installed on a computing device including, but not limited to, a desktop computer, a laptop computer, a mobile device, a games console or any other computing device.

11. The method of claim 1 where the client installer performs an update to one or more of the client application code, local database content or local database structure.

12. The method of claim 1 where the client application causes the client to function as a media player.

5. The method of 4 where expired data items are refreshed with data from the remote server.

7. The method of 6 where the remote server pushes refreshed data to the client installation when the client installation'"'"'s data items are near, at or beyond their expiration point.

9. The method of claim 7 where the data refresh also updates the structure of the local database and relocates existing and new data into the revised structure.

8. The method of 7 where the said push of refreshed data happens automatically.
