Abstract

A first resource is provided on a user device, the first resource including a plurality of links to other resources. At least one, but not all of the plurality of links are selected for pre-caching, and at least a portion of a second resource located by the first link is automatically cached. At least the portion of the second resource is provided in response to a designated triggering event.

Claims

1. A method for rendering web content, the method being implemented by one or more processors and comprising:

(a) rendering a first resource on a user device, the first resource including a plurality of links to other resources;

(b) selecting at least a first link, but not all, of the plurality of links;

(c) in response to rendering the first resource on the user device, automatically caching at least a portion of a second resource located by the first link; and

(d) displaying at least the portion of the second resource in response to a designated triggering event.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the designated triggering event corresponds to a user selecting the first link.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the designated triggering event corresponds to a user action that is indicative of the user'"'"'s intent to select the first link provided on the first resource.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein (c) includes retrieving the second resource, and (d) includes displaying only a portion of the second resource.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein (c) includes replacing a portion of the first resource with the portion of the second resource.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein the portion of the second resource excludes a menu of the second resource.

7. The method of claim 4, wherein the portion of the second resource excludes one or more advertisements.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein (c) includes selectively retrieving only a portion of the second resource.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein (b) includes selecting the first based on a statistical determination that identifies the first link as being more likely to be selected as compared to one or more other links in plurality of links.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the statistical determination is based on past activity of a specific user.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein the statistical determination is based on activity of a population of users.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein (b) includes analyzing a formatting and/or positioning of the individual links in the set of links as compared to some or all of the other links in the set of links.

13. A method for rendering web content, the method being implemented by one or more processors and comprising:

(a) rendering a first resource on a user device, the first resource providing a set of links to other resources;

(b) in response to rendering the first resource on the user device, automatically (i) selecting a subset of links provided on the first resource, and (ii) caching at least a portion of each link in the subset of links;

(c) detecting an event that is indicative of a user'"'"'s interest in viewing a resource located by one of the links in the subset of links; and

(d) displaying at least a portion of the resource located by one of the links in the subset of links.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein (c) includes detecting a user selecting the link in the set of links.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein (c) includes detecting a user action that is indicative of the user'"'"'s interest to select the link provided on the first resource.

16. The method of claim 13, wherein (b) includes retrieving a resource located by each link in the subset of links.

17. The method of claim 13, wherein (d) includes replacing a portion of the first resource with the portion of the resource located by one of the links in the subset of links.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the portion of the resource located by one of the links in the subset of links excludes a menu of the resource located by one of the links in the subset of links.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein the portion of the resource located by one of the links in the subset of links excludes one or more advertisements.

20. A server comprising:

one or more processors to;

receive a request from a browser for a first resource;

automatically identify a set of links provided on the first resource which is more likely to be selected than other links provided on the first resource;

communicate the set of links to the browser, in order to enable the browser to pre-cache one or more of the links in the set of links.

21. The server of claim 20, wherein the one or more processors respond to a pre-caching request from the browser for one or more of the links in the set of links.

22. The server of claim 20, wherein the one or more processors communicate with a service in order to identify the set of links.

23. The server of claim 20, wherein the links in the set of links are statistically determined as being more likely to be selected as compared to some or all of the other links provided with the first resource.
