Abstract

A media agent that monitors multiple broadcast transmissions and a method for the same. The media agent establishes connections with broadcast transmissions and then identifies characteristics of the media content contained within the broadcast transmission. The association between the identified characteristic of the media content and the connected broadcast transmission is maintained to allow the information gathered from the broadcast transmission to be used meaningfully.

5. A method for a media agent to monitor multiple internet broadcasters for media content, comprising:

identifying a broadcast transmission to be monitored;

establishing connections with the identified broadcast transmissions;

identifying, for each connected broadcast transmission, the media content without the use of a unique identifier that is derived from or inserted or embedded in the media content; and

maintaining the association between the identified media content and the connected broadcast transmission.
