Abstract

Game players are connected to each other through comparisons of information associated with events in which the game players and their friends have competed. Competition information such as game play results, leader board positions, game attributes, and entitlements are used to compare players and players'"'"' friends to each other, and the comparison information is used to recommend additional events to the players in such a way as to enhance social networking and asynchronous game play among the game players and their friends in the game.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving first game play results of a first user playing a game;

retrieving other game play results of at least one other user playing the game; and

comparing the first game play results with the other game play results producing a message based on the comparison, the message including a recommendation for the first user to improve future game play results over the first game play results, the recommendation based on the game play of the other user.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

retrieving attributes associated with the first user;

retrieving attributes associated with the other user;

comparing the first user attributes with the other user attributes; and

updating the recommendation based on the comparison.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the other user is a friend.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the other user is one of a group to which the first user belongs.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the group is associated with a geographic location.

6. The method of claim 4, wherein the group is associated with a game entitlement.

7. The method of claim 4, wherein the group is associated with a purchase history.

8. A game system, comprising:

a component configured to receive first game play results of a first user playing a game;

a component configured to retrieve other game play results of at least one other user playing the game; and

a component configured to compare the first game play results with the other game play results producing a message based on the comparison, the message including a recommendation for the first user to improve future game play results over the first game play results, the recommendation based on the game play of the other user.

9. The game system of claim 8, further comprising:

a component configured to retrieve attributes associated with the first user;

a component configured to retrieve attributes associated with the other user;

a component configured to compare the first user attributes with the other user attributes; and

a component configured to update the recommendation based on the comparison.

10. The game system of claim 8, wherein the other user is a friend.

11. The game system of claim 8, wherein the other user is one of a group to which the first user belongs.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the group is associated with a geographic location.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the group is associated with a game entitlement.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein the group is associated with a purchase history.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium with an executable program stored thereon, wherein the program instructs a processor to perform a method, the method comprising:

receiving first game play results of a first user playing a game;

retrieving other game play results of at least one other user playing the game; and

comparing the first game play results with the other game play results producing a message based on the comparison, the message including a recommendation for the first user to improve future game play results over the first game play results, the recommendation based on the game play of the other user.

16. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15, further comprising:

retrieving attributes associated with the first user;

retrieving attributes associated with the other user;

comparing the first user attributes with the other user attributes; and

updating the recommendation based on the comparison.

17. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the other user is a friend.

18. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 15, wherein the other user is one of a group to which the first user belongs.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the group is associated with a geographic location.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein the group is associated with a game entitlement.

21. The method of claim 18, wherein the group is associated with a purchase history.
