1. A power converter comprising:

  • first and second switching elements located at a high side and a low side relative to a basis electric potential and connected in series, the first and second switching elements performing conversion of power from a power source;

    a normal driver that operates on the power to drive the first and second switching elements using a drive signal having a predetermined voltage and frequency;

    a capacitor connected in parallel with the first and second switching elements;

    a backup power source provided separately from the power source, the backup power source supplying power during at least one of a normal period and a discharge period; and

    a discharging driver that operates on the power supplied from the backup power source, turns on or off at least one of the first and second switching elements based on a drive signal that has at least one of a voltage and a frequency, and drives the other of the first and second switching elements such that the other of the first and second switching elements is always on, the at least one of the voltage and the frequency of the drive signal being within a predetermined range lower than a corresponding at least one of the predetermined voltage and frequency of the drive signal outputted from the normal driver.
