Abstract

A wound dressing (1;15;18) comprising a polyurethane film sheet (2;19) having a wound facing side (3) and an opposite side (4). The wound facing side (3) has a peripheral rim zone (5) provided with an adhesive (6) or an adhesive means (16), the peripheral rim zone (5) encircles a central sheet part (11) free of adhesive (6) or adhesive means (16), and the wound dressing (1) has a moisture vapor transmission rate of at least 1,200 g/m 2/24 hour at the adhesive-coated or adhesive-means provided rim zone (5) and a moisture vapor transmission rate at the central sheet part (12) of at least 3,000 g/m 2/24 hour. A method and production line for manufacturing various embodiments of wound dressings are also disclosed.

70. A wound dressing comprising:

a polyurethane film sheet having a wound facing side and an opposite side;

the wound facing side having a peripheral rim zone provided with an adhesive;

the peripheral rim zone encircles a central sheet part free of adhesive;

the wound dressing has a moisture vapor transmission rate of at least 1,200 g/m²/24 hour at the peripheral rim zone and a moisture vapor transmission rate at the central sheet part of at least 3,000 g/m²/24 hour; and

a frame part encircling at least a part of the central sheet part.

71. A wound dressing as recited in claim 70, wherein the polyurethane film sheet has a moisture vapor transmission rate at the central sheet part of at least 4,000 g/m²/24 hour.

72. A wound dressing as recited in claim 71, wherein the polyurethane film sheet has a moisture vapor transmission rate at the central sheet part of at least 6,000 g/m²/24 hour.

73. A wound dressing as recited in claim 72, wherein the polyurethane film sheet has a moisture vapor transmission rate at the central sheet part of at least 7,000 g/m²/24 hour.

74. A wound dressing as recited in claim 70, wherein the polyurethane of the polyurethane film sheet is selected from the group consisting of medical grade, bacteria proof, impermeable to liquid water, stretchable, or transparent.

75. A wound dressing as recited in claim 70, wherein the area of the central sheet part is at least 30% of the total area of a side of the polyurethane film sheet.

76. A wound dressing as recited in claim 70, wherein the polyurethane film sheet does not adhere to itself.

77. A wound dressing as recited in claim 70, wherein the adhesive is selected from the group consisting of an acrylic-based adhesive, a hot-melt adhesive or a hydrocolloid adhesive.

78. A wound dressing as recited in claim 70, wherein the adhesive is hypoallergenic.

79. A wound dressing as recited in claim 70, wherein the adhesive contains povidone-iodine.

80. A wound dressing as recited in claim 70, wherein the thickness of the polyurethane film sheet is between 5-40 μ

m.

81. A wound dressing as recited in claim 80, wherein the thickness of the polyurethane film sheet is between 15-25 μ

m.

82. A wound dressing as recited in claim 70, wherein the adhesive is protected by a first release liner.

83. A wound dressing as recited in claim 82, wherein the first release liner has a first flap and a second flap.

84. A wound dressing as recited in claim 70, wherein the opposite side of the polyurethane film sheet is free of adhesive and optionally protected by a second release liner.

85. A wound dressing as recited in claim 70, wherein the frame part is detachable from the polyurethane film sheet.

86. A wound dressing as recited in claim 70, wherein any of the first release liner and the second release liner is silicon coated.

87. A wound dressing as recited in claim 70, wherein the polyurethane film sheet includes silver or a silver compound.

88. A method for manufacturing a wound dressing, the method comprising:

providing a width of a first laminate having an adhesive provided thereon;

providing through-openings through the first laminate;

delaminating the width of first laminate to expose the adhesive;

providing a width of a second laminate having a polyurethane film with a moisture vapor transmission rate of at least 3,000 g/m²/24 hour, the polyurethane film being supported by a carrier;

producing a third laminate of wound dressing material by laminating the width of second laminate to the delaminated width of first laminate having the through-openings to apply the adhesive to the polyurethane film to thereby obtain a moisture vapor transmission rate of at least 1,200 g/m²/24 hour through a part of the wound dressing material which includes the adhesive; and

from the third laminate of wound dressing material providing a wound dressing with a peripheral rim zone provided with the adhesive, the peripheral rim zone encircling a central polyurethane sheet part which is free of adhesive on both sides.

89. A production line for manufacturing a wound dressing, the production line comprising:

a first station for unwinding a first laminate, the first laminate having an adhesive;

a second station for providing through-openings through the first laminate;

a third station for delaminating the first laminate to expose the adhesive;

a fourth station for providing a width of a second laminate, the second laminate having a polyurethane film with a moisture vapor transmission rate of at least 3,000 g/m²/24 hour, the polyurethane film being supported by a carrier;

a fifth station for laminating the second laminate to the delaminated first laminate to provide a third laminate of wound dressing material having a moisture vapor transmission rate of at least 1,200 g/m²/24 hour through both the adhesive layer and the polyurethane film; and

an end cutting station for separating out the wound dressing from the third laminate.
