Abstract

A method for determining when a cooling system for a work vehicle is restricted with debris. A first temperature difference between an inlet and an outlet of a heat exchanger is determined when the airflow though said heat exchanger is substantially unrestricted. When a subsequent temperature difference is less than the first temperature difference by a predetermined amount, the direction of the airflow is reversed to remove debris from the heat exchanger.

Claims

1. A method for determining when a cooling system for a work vehicle is restricted with debris, said method comprising the following steps:

providing airflow to cool at least one heat exchanger;

determining a temperature of said airflow at an inlet to said at least one heat exchanger;

determining a temperature of said airflow at an outlet of said at least one heat exchanger;

determining a temperature difference between said inlet and outlet temperatures of said at least one heat exchanger;

determining said temperature difference is decreasing over time; and

reversing direction of said airflow to remove debris from said at least one heat exchanger.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of performing an initializing reverse of said airflow prior to determining said temperature difference representative of when said airflow through said at least one heat exchanger is maximized.

3. The method of claim 2 comprising the step of waiting to reverse said airflow until said temperature difference reaches a predetermined value less than said temperature difference determined when said airflow through said at least one heat exchanger had been maximized.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein said determining steps are performed with a specific airflow.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein said air mover is a fan and said determining steps are performed when said fan is operating at a specific speed.

6. The method of claim 2 wherein said step of determining a temperature difference is performed after a period of time after said initializing reverse.

7. A method for determining when a cooling system for a work vehicle is restricted with debris, said method comprising the following steps:

providing airflow to cool a heat exchanger;

determining a first temperature difference between an inlet and an outlet of said heat exchanger when said airflow though said heat exchanger is substantially unrestricted;

determining a subsequent temperature difference between said inlet and said outlet of said heat exchanger;

determining said subsequent temperature difference is less than said first temperature difference by a predetermined amount; and

in response to determining said subsequent temperature difference is less than said first temperature difference by said predetermined amount, reversing direction of said airflow to remove debris from said heat exchanger.

8. The method of claim 7 wherein said determining steps are performed with a specific airflow.

9. The method of claim 7 wherein said airflow is provided by a fan and said determining steps are performed when said fan is operating at a specific speed.
