Abstract

An exemplary method processes an electronic communication received by a first end-user communication device where the digital electronic communication is packet having a header segment and a user data segment conveyed to the first end-user communication device using one of a plurality of possible transport layer communication protocols. A determination is made whether the received user data segment contains a first label that identifies a corresponding module of an enhanced services application program stored in memory of the first end-user communication device. On determining that a first label is contained in the user data segment, routing the received user data segment to the first module of the first enhanced services application program regardless of which one of the plurality of possible transport layer communication protocols carried the electronic communication to the first end-user communication device. The received user data segment is processed by the first module and clear text information extracted from the user data segment is stored in the memory.

Claims

1. A method for processing an electronic communication received by a first end-user communication device, the method comprising:

receiving the electronic communication by the first end-user communication device where the electronic communication comprises a digital packet having a header segment and a user data segment, all information in the user data segment being under the control of a user of a second end-user communication device that originated the electronic communication, the received electronic communication conveyed to the first end-user communication device using one of a plurality of possible transport layer communication protocols;

determining by the first end-user communication device whether the received user data segment contains a first label that corresponds to one of predetermined labels stored in memory of the first end-user communication device, where each stored label identifies a corresponding module of an enhanced services application program stored in memory of the first end-user communication device;

upon determining that a first label is contained in the user data segment that identifies a corresponding first module of the enhanced services application program stored in memory of the first end-user device, routing the received user data segment to the first module of the first enhanced services application program regardless of which one of the plurality of possible transport layer communication protocols carried the electronic communication to the first end-user communication device;

processing the received user data segment by the first module of the enhanced services application program and storing in the memory clear text information contained in the user data segment.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the plurality of possible transport layer communication protocols comprises short messaging service (SMS) text messaging, multimedia messaging service (MMS), and email protocols.

The method of claim 1 wherein each module of the enhanced services application program contains a stored user identification and password associated with the respective module, receiving a user input of the user identification and password corresponding to user identification and password stored for the module being required to access on a screen of the first end-user'"'"'s communication device the stored clear text information associated with the corresponding module.

The method of claim 1 wherein all of the information contained in the user data segment except for the first label is received in an encrypted format that is unique to type of module of the enhanced services application program from which the electronic communication originated, the first end-user communication device operating under the control of the first module of the enhanced services application program where the first module corresponds to the same type of enhanced services module used to originate the electronic communication, the first module of the first end-user'"'"'s communication device decrypting the encrypted information in the user data segment to provide a clear text representation.

The method of claim 4 wherein the encrypted format that is also unique to one of the originator'"'"'s identity and the recipient'"'"'s identity, where the originator'"'"'s identity and the recipient'"'"'s identity includes at least one of information associated with the originating and receiving users, and the communication devices used by the originating and receiving users.

The method of claim 1 wherein all of the information contained in the user data segment except for the first label is received in an encrypted format that is unique to type of module of the enhanced services application program from which the electronic communication originated, and wherein the received user data segment was originated by a first type of module of an enhanced services application program, processing the received user data segment by a module of the enhanced services application program by the first end-user'"'"'s communication device that is not the same type of module as the first type of module used in originating the electronic communication generates a character string that is not intelligible, processing the received user data segment by a native communication program on the first end-user'"'"'s communication device generates a character string that is not intelligible.

7. A computer program product, comprising a computer usable tangible medium having a computer readable program code embodied therein, said computer readable program code adapted to be executed to implement a method for processing an electronic communication received by a first end-user communication device, the method comprising:

receiving the electronic communication by the first end-user communication device where the electronic communication comprises a digital packet having a header segment and a user data segment, all information in the user data segment being under the control of a user of a second end-user communication device that originated the electronic communication, the received electronic communication conveyed to the first end-user communication device using one of a plurality of possible transport layer communication protocols;

determining by the first end-user communication device whether the received user data segment contains a first label that corresponds to one of predetermined labels stored in memory of the first end-user communication device, where each stored label identifies a corresponding module of an enhanced services application program stored in memory of the first end-user communication device;

upon determining that a first label is contained in the user data segment that identifies a corresponding first module of the enhanced services application program stored in memory of the first end-user device, routing the received user data segment to the first module of the first enhanced services application program regardless of which one of the plurality of possible transport layer communication protocols carried the electronic communication to the first end-user communication device;

processing the received user data segment by the first module of the enhanced services application program and storing in the memory clear text information contained in the user data segment.

8. The computer program product of claim 7 wherein the plurality of possible transport layer communication protocols comprises short messaging service (SMS) text messaging, multimedia messaging service (MMS), and email protocols.

The computer program product of claim 7 wherein each module of the enhanced services application program contains a stored user identification and password associated with the respective module, receiving a user input of the user identification and password corresponding to user identification and password stored for the module being required to access on a screen of the first end-user'"'"'s communication device the stored clear text information associated with the corresponding module.

The computer program product of claim 7 wherein all of the information contained in the user data segment except for the first label is received in an encrypted format that is unique to type of module of the enhanced services application program from which the electronic communication originated, the first end-user communication device operating under the control of the first module of the enhanced services application program where the first module corresponds to the same type of enhanced services module used to originate the electronic communication, the first module of the first end-user'"'"'s communication device decrypting the encrypted information in the user data segment to provide a clear text representation.

The computer program product of claim 10 wherein the encrypted format that is also unique to one of the originator'"'"'s identity and the recipient'"'"'s identity, where the originator'"'"'s identity and the recipient'"'"'s identity includes at least one of information associated with the originating and receiving users, and the communication devices used by the originating and receiving users.

The computer program product of claim 7 wherein all of the information contained in the user data segment except for the first label is received in an encrypted format that is unique to type of module of the enhanced services application program from which the electronic communication originated, and wherein the received user data segment was originated by a first type of module of an enhanced services application program, processing the received user data segment by a module of the enhanced services application program by the first end-user'"'"'s communication device that is not the same type of module as the first type of module used in originating the electronic communication generates a character string that is not intelligible, processing the received user data segment by a native communication program on the first end-user'"'"'s communication device generates a character string that is not intelligible.

13. An end-user wireless communication device that processes a received electronic communication, the device comprising:

a microprocessor controlled apparatus receives the electronic communication where the electronic communication comprises a digital packet having a header segment and a user data segment, all information in the user data segment being under the control of a user of another end-user communication device that originated the electronic communication, the received electronic communication conveyed to the end-user communication device using one of a plurality of possible transport layer communication protocols;

the microprocessor controlled apparatus having memory;

the microprocessor controlled apparatus determines whether the received user data segment contains a first label that corresponds to one of predetermined labels stored in the memory, where each stored label identifies a corresponding module of an enhanced services application program stored in the memory;

the microprocessor controlled apparatus, upon determining that a first label is contained in the user data segment that identifies a corresponding first module of the enhanced services application program stored in memory, routes the received user data segment to the first module of the first enhanced services application program regardless of which one of the plurality of possible transport layer communication protocols carried the electronic communication to the end-user communication device;

the microprocessor controlled apparatus processing the received user data segment by the first module of the enhanced services application program and storing in the memory clear text information contained in the user data segment.

14. The end-user wireless communication device of claim 13 wherein the plurality of possible transport layer communication protocols comprises short messaging service (SMS) text messaging, multimedia messaging service (MMS), and email protocols.

The end-user wireless communication device of claim 13 wherein each module of the enhanced services application program contains a stored user identification and password associated with the respective module, the microprocessor controlled apparatus receiving a user input of the user identification and password corresponding to user identification and password stored for the module being required to access on a screen of the end-user'"'"'s communication device the stored clear text information associated with the corresponding module.

The end-user wireless communication device of claim 13 wherein all of the information contained in the user data segment except for the first label is received in an encrypted format that is unique to type of module of the enhanced services application program from which the electronic communication originated, the microprocessor controlled apparatus operating under the control of the first module of the enhanced services application program where the first module corresponds to the same type of enhanced services module used to originate the electronic communication, the first module of the end-user'"'"'s communication device decrypting the encrypted information in the user data segment to provide a clear text representation.

The end-user wireless communication device of claim 16 wherein the encrypted format that is also unique to one of the originator'"'"'s identity and the recipient'"'"'s identity, where the originator'"'"'s identity and the recipient'"'"'s identity includes at least one of information associated with the originating and receiving users, and the communication devices used by the originating and receiving users.

The end-user wireless communication device of claim 13 wherein all of the information contained in the user data segment except for the first label is received in an encrypted format that is unique to type of module of the enhanced services application program from which the electronic communication originated, and wherein the received user data segment was originated by a first type of module of an enhanced services application program, the microprocessor controlled apparatus processing the received user data segment by a module of the enhanced services application program that is not the same type of module as the first type of module used in originating the electronic communication generates a character string that is not intelligible, the microprocessor controlled apparatus processing the received user data segment by a native communication program on the end-user'"'"'s communication device generates a character string that is not intelligible.
