Abstract

Providing real-time segment performance information is disclosed. In some embodiments, a segment associated with a user'"'"'s current activity is determined based at least in part on at least a portion of location information recorded so far. In some embodiments, real-time segment performance information associated with the user'"'"'s current activity on the segment is communicated.

Claims

1. A method of providing real-time segment performance information, comprising:

determining a segment associated with a user'"'"'s current activity based at least in part on at least a portion of location information recorded so far; and

communicating real-time segment performance information associated with the user'"'"'s current activity on the segment.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein determining the segment associated with a user'"'"'s current activity includes determining whether the user'"'"'s current activity matches the segment.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein determining whether the user'"'"'s current activity matches the segment includes determining whether the at least portion of location information recorded so far crosses a virtual start line associated with the segment.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein determining whether the user'"'"'s current activity matches the segment includes determining whether the at least portion of location information recorded so far crosses a portion associated with the segment

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the location information includes global positioning system (GPS) points and an associated timestamp at each GPS point.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving user-configurable selections associated with transmission of data by a device including one or more of the following:

receiving one or more trigger event definitions, receiving a time period definition, and receiving one or more definitions associated with battery life conservation.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein communicating real-time segment performance information is based at least in part on feedback data sent to a device.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein communicating real-time segment performance information is based at least in part on feedback data generated at a device.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the segment is associated with a user selection of segments to potentially match.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

obtaining data associated with one or more segments to potentially match to a device, wherein the obtained segment data is to be stored locally at the device, and wherein the at least portion of the location information and other data associated with the user'"'"'s current activity are to be compared at the device to the locally stored data.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the performance information includes:

comparison results between the performance data associated with the user'"'"'s current activity on the segment and stored historical performance data associated with the segment.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the stored historical performance data includes data associated with one or both of the user and another user.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the performance information includes:

comparison results between the performance data associated with the user'"'"'s current activity on the segment and stored concurrent performance data associated with other users'"'"' current activities on the segment.

14. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving user configurable selections associated with one or more other users whose performance data is to be compared with the performance data associated with the user'"'"'s current activity.

15. The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving a user configurable selection associated with a window of concurrency in which performance data of user activity inside the window is to be compared against each other.

16. The method of claim 1, further comprising sending at least a portion of the performance information to a third party operated social network.

17. The method of claim 16, further comprising receiving a response from the third party operated social network based at least in part on the sent portion of the performance information.

18. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining a current progress associated with the user'"'"'s current activity on the segment.

19. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining whether another segment is nearby a current location of the user'"'"'s current activity.

20. A system for providing real-time segment performance information, comprising:

a processor configured to;

determine a segment associated with a user'"'"'s current activity based at least in part on at least a portion of location information recorded so far; and

communicate real-time segment performance information associated with the user'"'"'s current activity on the segment; and

a memory coupled to the processor and configured to provide the processor with instructions.

21. The system of claim 20, wherein to determine the segment associated with a user'"'"'s current activity includes determining whether the user'"'"'s current activity matches the segment.

22. The system of claim 20, wherein the processor is further configured to receive user-configurable selections associated with transmission of data by a device including one or more of is the following:

receiving one or more trigger event definitions, receiving a time period definition, and receiving one or more definitions associated with battery life conservation.

23. The system of claim 20, wherein to communicate real-time segment performance information is based at least in part on feedback data sent to a device.

24. The system of claim 20, wherein to communicate real-time segment performance information is based at least in part on feedback data generated at a device.

25. The system of claim 20, wherein the processor is further configured to:

obtain data associated with one or more segments to potentially match to a device, wherein the obtained segment data is to be stored locally at the device, and wherein the at least portion of the location information and other data associated with the user'"'"'s current activity are to be compared at the device to the locally stored data.

26. The system of claim 20, wherein the performance information includes:

comparison results between the performance data associated with the user'"'"'s current activity on the segment and stored historical performance data associated with the segment.

27. The system of claim 20, wherein the performance information includes:

comparison results between the performance data associated with the user'"'"'s current activity on the segment and stored concurrent performance data associated with other users'"'"' current activities on the segment.

28. The system of claim 20, wherein the processor is further configured to receive user configurable selections associated with one or more other users whose performance data is to be compared with the performance data associated with the user'"'"'s current activity.

29. The system of claim 20, wherein the processor is further configured to receive a user configurable selection associated with a window of concurrency in which performance data of user activity inside the window is to be compared against each other.

30. A computer program product for providing real-time segment performance information, is the computer program product being embodied in a non-transitory computer readable storage medium and comprising computer instructions for:

determining a segment associated with a user'"'"'s current activity based at least in part on at least a portion of location information recorded so far; and

communicating real-time segment performance information associated with the user'"'"'s current activity on the segment.
