Abstract

Methods, computer systems and computer readable media for receiving designing and displaying device and platform-specific forms are provided. In embodiments, base forms are utilized and modified to create custom forms that are platform and device specific, without breaking the parent-child relationship between the base form and the custom form for any non-modified characteristics of the base form. Custom forms enhance the performance and appearance. In embodiments, interrogators are executed at runtime to specify a set of instructions that will be executed, further enhancing the performance and appearance associated with the form and the particular device displaying the form. In various embodiments of the present invention, user interfaces provide the designer visual representations of the forms as they appear on selected platforms and/or devices.

Claims

1. One or more computer storage media (the “

media”

) storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by one or more computing devices, cause the one or more computing devices to perform a method for designing a platform-specific form, the method comprising;

receiving a base form;

receiving a selection of a particular platform;

presenting a platform-specific view of the base form;

receiving custom form parameters for the particular platform;

modifying the base form for the particular platform with the custom form parameters; and

presenting a platform-specific view of the custom form.

2. The media of claim 1, further comprising receiving a selection of a different platform and presenting the different platform-specific view.

3. The media of claim 2, further comprising presenting the particular platform and the different platform side-by-side.

4. The media of claim 1, further comprising presenting the custom form and the base form side-by-side.

5. The media of claim 1, wherein modifying the base form comprises editing properties associated with the base form.

6. The media of claim 1, further comprising saving the custom form.

7. The media of claim 6, wherein the modified features that comprise the custom form are saved in a separate branch from the base form.

8. The media of claim 6, further comprising receiving a selection of a different platform and presenting a different platform-specific view of the custom form.

9. The media of claim 1, wherein modifications to the base form that have not been modified in a particular custom form propagate to the particular custom form.

10. The media of claim 1, wherein modifications to the base form that have already been modified in a particular custom form do not propagate to the particular custom form.

11. A graphical user interface (GUI) stored on one or more computer-readable media and executable by a computing device, said GUI comprising:

a first display area configured for displaying a view of a base form;

a second display area configured for receiving a selection of a particular platform;

a third display area configured for receiving a modification of a characteristic of the base form;

a fourth display area for displaying the altered view corresponding with the modification; and

a fifth display area for saving the altered view as a custom form for the particular platform.

12. The media of claim 11, further comprising a sixth display area for displaying the altered view and the view side-by-side.

13. The media of claim 11, wherein the modification that is saved as the altered view is saved in a separate branch from the base form.

14. The media of claim 13, wherein modifications to characteristics in the base form that were not modified in the altered view propagate to the altered view.

15. The media of claim 13, wherein modifications to characteristics in the base form that were modified in the altered view do not propagate to the altered view.

16. A computer system for designing a platform-specific form, the computer system comprising a processor coupled to a computer storage medium, the computer storage medium having stored thereon a plurality of computer software components executable by the processor, the computer software components comprising:

a base form design component for receiving a design of a base form;

a platform selection component for receiving a selection of a platform;

a platform-specific view component for presenting a platform-specific view of the base form; and

a custom design form component for receiving modifications to parameters of the base form.

17. The system of claim 16, further comprising a custom form view component for presenting a view of the modified parameters.

18. The system of claim 16, further comprising a compare component for presenting a view of more than one view.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the more than one view includes a platform-specific view and the custom design view.

20. The system of claim 18, wherein the more than one view includes more than one platform-specific view.
