Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention disclose a system and method for dynamic color correction of an imaged object. According to one embodiment, an image containing an object and color chart is received. The color chart includes a range of color values, while at least one feature and an associated correctable color value is determined from the imaged object. Furthermore, a target color value substantially corresponding to the correctable color value is identified. Based on the identified target color value, the correctable color value associated with the feature is then corrected.

Claims

1. A method for dynamic color correction, the method comprising:

receiving from a user an image containing an object and a color chart, wherein the color chart includes a range of color values;

determining at least one feature and an associated correctable color value from the received image;

identifying, from the range of color values in the color chart, at least one target color value that substantially corresponds to the correctable color value; and

correcting the correctable color value based on the identified target color value.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

generating a color palette based on the one the at least one target color value.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the step of identifying at least one target color value comprises:

determining a distance value from the correctable color value to the target color value; and

continually refining the range of colors until the difference value between the correctable color value and the target color value is minimized.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the step of correcting a color value further comprise:

receiving a desired color value;

computing a match level between the desired color value and target color value; and

notifying the user of match information related to the match level between the correctable color value and the target color value.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the color chart is a single color chart comprising of a plurality of disparate and similar hue colors.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the at east one feature represents a sub-area of the imaged object.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the imaged object includes a plurality of features for correction.

8. A dynamic color correction system, the system comprising:

a color chart including a range of color values;

a region analyzing module configured to;

receive at least one feature from an image of an object and the color chart, and

identify at least one target color value from the range of color values in the color chart that substantially corresponds to a correctable color value; and

a color correcting module configured to correct the correctable color value based on the identified target color.

9. The image color correction system of claim 8, further comprising:

a palette selecting module configured generate a color palette based on the one the at least one target color value.

10. The image color correction system of claim 9, wherein the color correcting module is further configured to:

determine a distance value from the correctable color value to the target color value; and

continually refine the range of colors until the difference value between the correctable color value and the target color value is minimized.

11. The image color correction system of claim 10, further comprising a tolerance testing module configured to:

receive a desired feature or color value;

compute a match level between the desired color value and target color value; and

notify the user of match information related to the match level between the correctable color value and the target color value.

12. The image color correction system of claim 8, wherein the color chart is a single color chart comprising of a plurality of disparate and similar hue colors.

13. The image color correction system of claim 8, wherein the at least one feature represents a sub-area of the imaged object.

14. The image color correction system of claim 8, wherein the imaged object includes a plurality of features for correction.

15. The image color correction system of claim 8, wherein the image of the object and color chart are received over a network.

16. The image color correction system of claim 8, wherein the system resides as at least part of a mobile phone or computer application.

17. A computer readable storage medium having stored executable instructions, that when executed by a processor, causes the processor to:

receive from a user an image of an object and a dynamic color chart, wherein the dynamic color chart includes a range of color values;

determine at least one feature and an associated correctable color value from the received image;

identify, from the range of color values in the color chart, at least one target color value that substantially corresponds to the correctable color value; and

correct the correctable color value based on the identified target color value.

18. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the executable instructions further cause the processor to:

generate a color palette based on the one the at least one target color value.

19. The computer readable storage medium of claim 17, wherein the step of identifying at least one target color value includes executable instructions further causing the processor to comprises:

determine a distance value from the correctable color value to the target color value; and

continually refine the range of colors until the difference value between the correctable color value and the target color value is minimized.

20. The computer readable storage medium of claim 19, wherein the step of correcting a color value includes executable instructions further causing the processor to:

receive a desired feature or color value;

compute a match level between the desired color value and target color value; and

notify the user of match information related to the match level between the correctable color value and the target color value.
