1. In an energy management system, a method for remotely monitoring and controlling a plurality of electronic devices associated with one or more facilities, the method comprising the steps of:

  • retrieving device information corresponding to characteristics of a particular device housed at a facility, wherein the device information comprises preexisting information maintained within an asset management system;

    based on the retrieved device information for the particular device, selecting a predetermined device communications module that enables remote communications with the particular device;

    via the predetermined device communications module, identifying current energy information for the particular device;

    retrieving a predefined energy rule for the particular device, wherein the predefined energy rule dictates an action to be taken with respect to the particular device based on satisfaction of one or more conditions associated with the energy rule;

    determining whether the predefined energy rule has been satisfied for the particular device as a function of the retrieved device information or the current energy information for the particular device; and

    if the predefined energy rule has been satisfied for the particular device based on satisfaction of the one or more conditions associated with the energy rule, remotely executing the action mandated by the energy rule via the predetermined device communications module for the particular device.
