Abstract

Systems and methods to integrate offer processing in a social networking environment. A computing apparatus includes: a data warehouse configured to store data associating a social networking account of a user with a financial payment account of the user; a portal configured to provide an offer to the user of the social networking account and to store data associating the offer with the financial payment account; a transaction handler configured to monitor transactions in the financial payment account of the user and detect a transaction that satisfies a set of requirements of the offer, when an authorization request for the transaction is being processed by the transaction handler; a message broker configured to generate a message in response to the transaction being detected; and a media controller coupled with the message broker to communicate the message to a social networking site.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

storing, in a computing apparatus, data associating a social networking account of a user with a financial payment account of the user;

providing, by the computing apparatus, an offer to the user of the social networking account via a social networking site;

associating, by the computing apparatus, the offer with the financial payment account based on the data stored to associate the social networking account of the user with the financial payment account of the user;

monitoring, by the computing apparatus, transactions in the financial payment account of the user to detect a transaction that satisfies a set of requirements of the offer when an authorization request for the transaction is being processed, based on the associating of the offer with the financial payment account; and

generating, by the computing apparatus, a message in the social networking site in response to the transaction that satisfies the set of requirements of the offer being detected.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the transaction is initiated on a transaction terminal of a merchant;

and the message announces a physical presence of the user at a location of the merchant based on an identification of the transaction terminal.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

posting, by the computing apparatus, the message in the social networking site using the social networking account of the user, based on the data associating the social networking account of the user with the financial payment account of the user.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the posting is performed automatically by the computing apparatus on behalf of the user without an input from the user after the generating of the message.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the posting is through an application programming interface of the social networking site.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

storing, in the computing apparatus, a communication reference of the user in association with the financial payment account of the user; and

transmitting, by the computing apparatus, a separate message to a mobile device of the user using the communication reference, based on the association between the communication reference and the financial payment account of the user, wherein the separate message identifies a benefit applied to the transaction.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the transmitting of the separate message is in parallel with processing of the authorization request for the transaction.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the message provides the offer to one or more friends of the user on the social networking site.

9. The method of claim 7, further comprising:

providing, by the computing apparatus, the benefit to the transaction in accordance with the offer, during processing of the transaction.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the transaction is initiated on a transaction terminal of a merchant;

and the method further comprises;

posting, by the computing apparatus, the message in the social networking site using a social networking account of the merchant.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the generating of the message comprises saving the message as a draft on the social networking site for the user;

and the method further comprises;

transmitting to the user a notification of the draft;

receiving from the user a reply to the notification; and

in response to the reply, posting the message on the social networking site on behalf of the user.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the reply includes a modification to the message.

13. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

prior to the transaction, receiving an input from the user to generate a customized template according to the input, wherein the message is generated based on the template.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the set of requirements includes matching an identity of a transaction terminal on which the transaction is initiated with an identity of a merchant from which the offer is extended;

and the method further comprises;

providing a merchant interface to receive a template; and

storing data representing the template, wherein the message is generated based at least in part on the template.

15. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

providing a user interface on the social networking site; and

receiving enrollment data through the user interface, the enrollment data including an identification of the financial payment account of the user, wherein the storing of the data associating the social networking account of the user with the financial payment account of the user is based on the enrollment data.

16. A computer storage medium storing instructions configured to instruct a computing apparatus to:

store, in the computing apparatus, data associating a social networking account of a user with a financial payment account of the user;

provide, by the computing apparatus, an offer to the user of the social networking account via a social networking site;

associate, by the computing apparatus, the offer with the financial payment account based on the data stored to associate the social networking account of the user with the financial payment account of the user;

monitor, by the computing apparatus, transactions in the financial payment account of the user to detect a transaction that satisfies a set of requirements of the offer when an authorization request for the transaction is being processed, based on the associating of the offer with the financial payment account; and

generate, by the computing apparatus, a message in the social networking site in response to the transaction that satisfies the set of requirements of the offer being detected.

17. A computing apparatus, comprising:

a data warehouse configured to store data associating a social networking account of a user with a financial payment account of the user;

a portal coupled with a social networking site to provide an offer to the user of the social networking account and coupled with the data warehouse to store data associating the offer with the financial payment account based on the data stored to associate the social networking account of the user with the financial payment account of the user;

a transaction handler coupled with the data warehouse to monitor transactions in the financial payment account of the user and detect, in accordance with the data associating the offer with the financial payment account, a transaction that satisfies a set of requirements of the offer when an authorization request for the transaction is being processed by the transaction handler;

a message broker coupled with the transaction handler to generate a message in response to the transaction that satisfies the set of requirements of the offer being detected; and

a media controller coupled with the message broker to communicate the message to the social networking site.

18. The computing apparatus of claim 17, further comprising:

a profile generator coupled with the data warehouse to generate a profile summarizing transactions recorded in the financial payment account of the user; and

an advertisement selector configured to identify the offer for the user based on the profile.

19. The computing apparatus of claim 18, wherein the media controller is configured to use an application programming interface to post the message on the social networking site using one of:

the social networking account of the user and a social networking account of a merchant that provides the offer.

20. The computing apparatus of claim 19, wherein the media controller is further configured to check-in the user with the merchant in the social networking account to announce physical presence of the user at a location of the merchant.
