Abstract

In one embodiment, a geo-social networking system that automatically determines an event and tags the event to photos uploaded from multiple users based on social and spatio-temporal proximity.

Claims

1. A method, by one or more computing devices, comprising:

receiving, from each of a plurality of users, a current location and an indication of one or more content objects for uploading;

identifying a first event tag based on social and spatio-temporal proximity between a subset of users of the plurality of users;

presenting the first event tag to at least one of the subset of users;

in response to one or more users of the subset of users, associating the first event tag to the one or more content objects from each of the subset of users.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

storing the one or content objects from each of the subset of users in a data store.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the identifying the first event tag is further based on spatio or temporal proximity to one or more sponsorships.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the determining the first event tag is further based on an existing event that one or more of the plurality of users have registered to.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the subset of users is further limited to users who are first-degree connections to each other.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the subset of users is further limited to users who are no more than two degrees separated from each other in a social graph.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the subset of users is further limited to users of the plurality of users who are associated with current location data within a pre-determined distance from each other.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein each of the subset of users is further limited to users of the plurality of users who are within a threshold degree of geo-temporal proximity to each other.

9. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium containing computer program code operative, when executed, to cause one or more processors to:

receive, from each of a plurality of users, a current location and an indication of one or more content objects for uploading;

identify a first event tag based on social and spatio-temporal proximity between a subset of users of the plurality of users;

present the first event tag to at least one of the subset of users;

in response to one or more users of the subset of users, associate the first event tag to the one or more content objects from each of the subset of users.

10. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 further comprising instructions operative to cause the one or more processors to:

store the one or content objects from each of the subset of users in a data store.

11. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 wherein the identifying the first event tag is further based on spatio or temporal proximity to one or more sponsorships.

12. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 wherein the determining the first event tag is further based on an existing event that one or more of the plurality of users have registered to.

13. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 wherein the subset of users is further limited to users who are first-degree connections to each other.

14. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 wherein the subset of users is further limited to users who are no more than two degrees separated from each other in a social graph.

15. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 wherein the subset of users is further limited to users of the plurality of users who are associated with current location data within a pre-determined distance from each other.

16. The computer-readable storage medium of claim 9 wherein each of the subset of users is further limited to users of the plurality of users who are within a threshold degree of geo-temporal proximity to each other.

17. An apparatus, comprising

a memory;

one or more interfaces;

one or more processors; and

a computer-readable storage medium storing instructions operative, when executed, to cause the one or more processors to;

receive, from each of a plurality of users, a current location and an indication of one or more content objects for uploading;

identify a first event tag based on social and spatio-temporal proximity between a subset of users of the plurality of users;

present the first event tag to at least one of the subset of users;

in response to one or more users of the subset of users, associate the first event tag to the one or more content objects from each of the subset of users.

18. The apparatus of claim 17 further comprising instructions operative to cause the one or more processors to:

store the one or content objects from each of the subset of users in a data store.

19. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the identifying the first event tag is further based on spatio or temporal proximity to one or more sponsorships.

20. The apparatus of claim 17 wherein the determining the first event tag is further based on an existing event that one or more of the plurality of users have registered to.
