Abstract

Controller coupled to a mobile communications environment including at least one of a public and a private network and method of controlling a mobile device in the mobile communications environment. The controller includes a receiver that receives data about network operating parameters at specific locations within the at least one of a public and private network, a processor that evaluates the data about the network operating parameters at the specific locations based upon rules for the mobile device, and a transmitter that sends advisories to a mobile device located within a predetermined proximity to one of the specific locations about the network operating parameters.

Claims

1. A controller coupled to a mobile communications environment including at least one of a public and a private network, the controller comprising:

a receiver that receives data about network operating parameters at specific locations within the at least one of a public and private network;

a processor that evaluates the data about the network operating parameters at the specific locations based upon rules for the mobile device; and

a transmitter that sends advisories to a mobile device located within a predetermined proximity to one of the specific locations about the network operating parameters.

2. The controller according to claim 1, wherein the advisories include at least one of an automatic sending of real time warnings of projected problems and real time warnings to avoid projected problems.

3. The controller according to claim 1, wherein the network operating parameters at the specific location comprises strength of signal data.

4. The controller according to claim 3, wherein the transmitter is configured to automatically send an advisory to the mobile device to direct the user of the mobile device to a location having improved signal strength over the user'"'"'s current location.

5. The controller according to claim 3, wherein the transmitter is configured to automatically send an advisory to the mobile device to direct the user of the mobile device to change to a different network having improved signal strength over the user'"'"'s current network.

6. The controller according to claim 1, wherein when network trouble is evaluated, a data collection frequency of the mobile device is increased.

7. The controller according to claim 1, wherein the network operating parameters at the specific location comprises cost of network usage.

8. The controller according to claim 7, wherein the transmitter is configured to automatically send an advisory to the mobile device to direct the user of the mobile device to change networks to avoid higher cost.

9. A method for controlling a mobile device coupled to a mobile communications environment including at least one of a public and a private network, the method comprising:

receiving data about network operating parameters at specific locations within the at least one of a public and private network;

evaluating the data about the network operating parameters at the specific locations based upon rules for the mobile device; and

transmitting advisories to a mobile device located within a predetermined proximity to one of the specific locations about the network operating parameters.

10. The method according to claim 9, wherein the advisories include at least one of an automatic sending of real time warnings of projected problems and real time warnings to avoid projected problems.

11. The method according to claim 9, wherein the network operating parameters at the specific location comprises strength of signal data.

12. The method according to claim 11, wherein the transmitting comprises automatically sending an advisory to the mobile device to direct the user of the mobile device to a location having improved signal strength over the user'"'"'s current location.

13. The method according to claim 11, wherein the transmitting comprises automatically sending an advisory to the mobile device to direct the user of the mobile device to change to a different network having improved signal strength over the user'"'"'s current network.

14. The method according to claim 9, further comprising determining from the evaluation network trouble, and increasing a data collection frequency of the mobile device.

15. The method according to claim 9, wherein the network operating parameters at the specific location comprises cost of network usage.

16. The method according to claim 15, wherein the transmitting comprises automatically sending an advisory to the mobile device to direct the user of the mobile device to change networks to avoid higher cost.
