METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR INCREASING PERFORMANCE OF TRANSMISSION CONTROL PROTOCOL SESSIONS IN DATA NETWORKS
First Claim
1. A method for increasing the performance of a transmission control protocol (TCP) session transmitted over a telephony local loop between a client and a server, the method comprising:
- providing a proxy system between the client and the server,the client and the server being coupled through a network, the network comprising;
a telephony local loop,an internet backbone, andan IP network layer between the telephony local loop and the internet backbone, the IP network layer having a first edge, the first edge comprising a first interface, the IP network layer being coupled to the client through the first interface,the client being coupled to the telephony local loop,the server being coupled to the client through the internet backbone,the proxy system being situated at the first edge of the IP network layer;
intercepting, at the proxy system, a request transmitted by the client;
transparently establishing a first TCP session between the client and the proxy system, and a second TCP session between the proxy system and the server; and
storing data, received from the server in response to the request, in a buffer at the proxy system, when throughput between the server and proxy system is greater than throughput between the proxy system and the client.

Abstract
A method for increasing the performance of a transmission control protocol (TCP) session transmitted over a telephony local loop between a client and a server. The method comprises: providing a proxy system between the client and the server, the client and the server being coupled through a network; intercepting, at the proxy system, a request transmitted by the client; transparently establishing a first TCP session between the client and the proxy system, and a second TCP session between the proxy system and the server; and storing data, received from the server in response to the request, in a buffer at the proxy system, when throughput between the server and proxy system is greater than throughput between the proxy system and the client.
