Abstract

An apparatus and method are provided for transmitting and receiving power for wireless power transmission. A power transmitting apparatus includes a power supplier for generating power; a resonator for transmitting the power generated by the power supplier to a plurality of power receiving apparatuses; and a controller for determining whether a power transmission to a new power receiving apparatus is possible using a power receiving apparatus management table, when the new power receiving apparatus is detected while the power transmissions of the plurality of power receiving apparatuses are being performed, and controlling the resonator to transmit power to the new power receiving apparatus, when the power transmission to the new receiving apparatus is possible. The power transmitting apparatus stably supplies power to a plurality of power receiving apparatuses by determining power transmission states of the plurality of power receiving apparatuses.

Claims

1. A power transmitting apparatus for wireless power transmission, the power transmitting apparatus comprising:

a power supplier for generating power;

a resonator for transmitting the power generated by the power supplier to a plurality of power receiving apparatuses; and

a controller for determining whether a power transmission to a new power receiving apparatus is possible using a power receiving apparatus management table for managing power transmissions of the plurality of power receiving apparatuses, when the new power receiving apparatus is detected while the power transmissions of the plurality of power receiving apparatuses are being performed, and controlling the resonator to transmit power to the new power receiving apparatus, when the power transmission to the new receiving apparatus is possible.

2. The power transmitting apparatus of claim 1, wherein the controller detects a load of the resonator to calculate a changed load value, and determines that there is the new power receiving apparatus, when the changed load value is larger than a preset threshold.

The power transmitting apparatus of claim 1, wherein the controller determines whether a network subscription request message is received from the new power receiving apparatus within a preset time, determines whether a reference load value is within an acceptable range by comparing the reference load value included in the received network subscription request message with a pre-stored changed load value, when the network subscription request message is received, and determines whether the new power receiving apparatus can subscribe to the wireless power transmission network, when the reference load value is within the acceptable range.

4. The power transmitting apparatus of claim 3, wherein the controller determines the new power receiving apparatus as invalid materials, when the network subscription request message is not received.

5. The power transmitting apparatus of claim 3, wherein the controller determines the new power receiving apparatus as invalid materials, when the reference load value exceeds the acceptable range.

6. The power transmitting apparatus of claim 3, wherein the controller transmits a network subscription approval message to the new power receiving apparatus, when the new power receiving apparatus can subscribe to the wireless power transmission network, and

wherein the controller transmits a network subscription rejection message to the new power receiving apparatus, when the new power receiving apparatus cannot subscribe to the wireless power transmission network.

The power transmitting apparatus of claim 1, wherein the controller determines whether a power transmission request message for requesting the power transmission is received from the new power receiving apparatus, determines whether the power transmission to the new power receiving apparatus is possible, when the power transmission request message is received, and stops transmitting power supplied for communication, when the power transmission request message is not received.

The power transmitting apparatus of claim 7, wherein the controller determines that the power transmission to the new power receiving apparatus is possible when a value generated by adding a power value transmitted by the power transmitting apparatus and a power value required by the new power receiving apparatus is smaller than a maximum output power value of the power transmitting apparatus.

9. The power transmitting apparatus of claim 1, wherein the power receiving apparatus management table includes power transmission state information on the plurality of power receiving apparatuses.

The power transmitting apparatus of claim 9, wherein the power transmission state information includes IDentifiers (IDs), reference loads, reference currents, reference voltages, reference efficiencies, power transmission states, input voltages, input currents, output voltages, and output currents of the plurality of power receiving apparatuses.

The power transmitting apparatus of claim 9, wherein the controller determines whether a power transmission state message indicating a power transmission state of the new power receiving apparatus is received from the new receiving apparatus, renews the power receiving apparatus management table using the power transmission state message, when the power transmission state message is received, calculates a transmission power value desired to be transmitted to the new power receiving apparatus using the renewed power receiving apparatus management table, and calculates a leakage power value of the new power receiving apparatus using the calculated transmission power value.

The power transmitting apparatus of claim 11, wherein the controller determines whether the calculated leakage power value is within an acceptable range, converts the calculated leakage power value to the calculated transmission power value to transmit the converted calculated transmission power, when the calculated leakage power value is within the acceptable range, and determines the new power receiving apparatus as invalid materials, when the calculated leakage power value exceeds the acceptable range.

13. The power transmitting apparatus of claim 1, wherein the controller transmits power for communication when a power transmission completion message is received from the new power receiving apparatus and stops transmitting the power, when a power transmission standby state message indicating that the new power receiving apparatus is in a power transmission standby state is not received from the new power receiving apparatus.

14. A method for wireless power transmission by a power transmitting apparatus, the method comprising:

detecting a new power receiving apparatus while performing power transmissions with a plurality of power receiving apparatuses included in a wireless power transmission network;

determining whether a power transmission to the new power receiving apparatus is possible using a power receiving apparatus management table for managing the power transmissions of the plurality of power receiving apparatuses; and

transmitting power to the new power receiving apparatus, when the power transmission is possible.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein detecting the new power receiving apparatus comprises:

detecting a load of a resonator;

calculating a changed load value based on the detected load of the resonator; and

determining that there is the new power receiving apparatus, when the calculated changed load value is larger than a preset threshold.

16. The method of claim 14, further comprising:

determining whether a network subscription request message is received from the new power receiving apparatus within a preset time;

comparing a reference load value included in the received network subscription request message with a pre-stored changed load value, when the network subscription request message is received;

determining whether a reference load value is within an acceptable range; and

determining whether the new power receiving apparatus can subscribe to the wireless multi-power transmission network, when the reference load value is within the acceptable range.

17. The method of claim 16, further comprising determining the new power receiving apparatus as invalid materials, when the network subscription request message is not received.

18. The method of claim 16, further comprising determining the new power receiving apparatus as invalid materials, when the reference load value exceeds the acceptable range.

19. The method of claim 16, further comprising:

transmitting a network subscription approval message to the new power receiving apparatus, when the new power receiving apparatus can subscribe to the wireless power transmission network; and

transmitting a network subscription rejection message to the new power receiving apparatus, when the new power receiving apparatus cannot subscribe to the wireless power transmission network.

20. The method of claim 14, further comprising:

determining whether a power transmission request message for requesting the power transmission is received from the new power receiving apparatus;

determining whether the power transmission to the new power receiving apparatus is possible, when the power transmission request message is received; and

stopping transmitting power supplied for communication, when the power transmission request message is not received.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein determining whether the power transmission to the new power receiving apparatus is possible comprises:

determining whether a value generated by adding a power value transmitted by the power transmitting apparatus and a power value required by the new power receiving apparatus is smaller than a maximum output power value of the power transmitting apparatus; and

determining that the power transmission to the new power receiving apparatus is possible, when the added value is smaller than the maximum output power value of the power transmitting apparatus.

22. The method of claim 14, wherein the power receiving apparatus management table includes power transmission state information on the plurality of power receiving apparatuses.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein the power transmission state information includes IDentifiers (IDs), reference loads, reference currents, reference voltages, reference efficiencies, power transmission states, input voltages, input currents, output voltages, and output currents of the plurality of power receiving apparatuses.

24. The method of claim 22, further comprising:

determining whether a power transmission state message indicating a power transmission state of the new power receiving apparatus is received from the new power receiving apparatus;

renewing the power receiving apparatus management table using the power transmission state message, when the power transmission state message is received;

calculating a transmission power value desired to be transmitted to the new power receiving apparatus using the renewed power receiving apparatus management table; and

calculating a leakage power value of the new power receiving apparatus using the calculated transmission power value.

25. The method of claim 24, further comprising:

determining whether the calculated leakage power value is within an acceptable range;

converting the calculated leakage power value to the calculated transmission power value and transmitting the power with the converted calculated transmission power value, when the calculated leakage power value is within the acceptable range; and

determining the new power receiving apparatus as invalid materials, when the calculated leakage power value exceeds the acceptable range.

26. The method of claim 14, further comprising:

transmitting power for communication, when a power transmission completion message is received from the new power receiving apparatus; and

stopping transmitting the power for communication, when a power transmission standby state message indicating that the new power receiving apparatus is in a power transmission standby state is not received from the new power receiving apparatus.

27. A power receiving apparatus for wireless power transmission, the power receiving apparatus comprising:

a resonator for receiving power from a power transmitting apparatus;

a battery unit for storing the received power; and

a controller for controlling for transmitting a power transmission request message to the power transmitting apparatus, when a network subscription approval message is received from the power transmitting apparatus, and for controlling the resonator to receiver the power from the power transmitting apparatus and storing the received power in the battery unit, when the a power transmission approval message is received from the power transmitting apparatus.

28. The power receiving apparatus of claim 27, wherein the controller generates a network subscription request message including an IDentifier (ID), a protocol version, and a reference load value of the power receiving apparatus and transmits the generated network subscription request message to the power transmitting apparatus, when communication with the power transmitting apparatus is connected.

The power receiving apparatus of claim 27, wherein the controller supplies the power to the battery unit, when the power transmission approval message is received from the power transmitting apparatus, measures an output voltage, an output current, a reception voltage, and a reception current of an output terminal, generates a power transmission state message including the measured output voltage, the measured output current, the measured reception voltage, and the measured reception current of the output terminal, and periodically transmits the generated power transmission state message to the power transmitting apparatus.

30. The power receiving apparatus of claim 29, wherein the controller stops supplying the power to the battery unit, when a power reception is completed, generates a power transmission completion message for indicating that a power transmission is completed, transmits the generated power transmission completion message to the power transmitting apparatus, enters a power reception standby state, and periodically transmits a power transmission standby state message to the power transmitting apparatus in order to maintain a communication connection with the power transmitting apparatus.

The power receiving apparatus of claim 29, wherein the controller enters a power reception standby state and supplies the power to the battery unit, measures the output voltage and the output current of the output terminal, and stops supplying the power to the battery unit when the power transmission approval message is not received or a power transmission rejection message is received from the power transmitting apparatus within a preset time.

32. A method for wireless power transmission by a power receiving apparatus, the method comprising:

receiving a network subscription approval message from a power transmitting apparatus;

transmitting a power transmission request message to the power transmitting apparatus; and

receiving power from the power transmitting apparatus and storing the power in a battery unit, when a power transmission approval message is received from the power transmitting apparatus.

33. The method of claim 32, further comprising:

generating a network subscription request message including an IDentifier (ID), a protocol version, a reference load value of the power receiving apparatus; and

transmitting the network subscription request message to the power transmitting apparatus.

34. The method of claim 32, further comprising:

supplying the power to the battery unit, when the power transmission approval message is received from the power transmitting apparatus;

measuring an output voltage, an output current, a reception voltage, and a reception current of an output terminal;

generating a power transmission state message including the measured output voltage, output current, reception voltage, and reception current of the output terminal; and

periodically transmitting the power transmission state message to the power transmitting apparatus.

35. The method of claim 34, further comprising:

stopping supplying the power to the battery unit b, when a power reception is completed;

generating a power transmission completion message indicating that a power transmission is completed;

entering a power reception standby state; and

maintaining a communication connection with the power transmitting apparatus by periodically transmitting a power transmission standby state message to the power transmitting apparatus.

36. The method of claim 34, further comprising:

entering a power reception standby state, when the power transmission approval message is not received or a power transmission rejection message is received from the power transmitting apparatus within a preset time;

supplying the power to the battery unit;

measuring the output voltage and the output current of the output terminal; and

stopping supplying the power to the battery unit.
