Arrangement for Sensing Weight of an Occupying Item in Vehicular Seat
First Claim
1. A vehicle, comprising:
- a seat support structure;
a cushion arranged on said seat support structure, said cushion having an upper surface for supporting an occupying item, said cushion being configured to deflect downward as a function of weight of the occupying item;
a sensor system comprising a force-measuring device configured to respond to downward deflection of said cushion; and
an interrogator configured to send a signal to said force-measuring device, said force-measuring device being configured to transmit, after receipt of said signal from said interrogator, a return signal to said interrogator related to the response of said force-measuring device to the downward deflection of said cushion.

Abstract
Vehicle including a seat support structure, a cushion arranged thereon and having an upper surface for supporting an occupying item and that deflects downward as a function of weight of the occupying item, and a sensor system including a force-measuring device that responds to downward deflection of the cushion. An interrogator sends a signal to the force-measuring device and the force-measuring device transmits, after receipt of the signal from the interrogator, a return signal to the interrogator related to the response of the force-measuring device to the downward deflection of the cushion. In a method for obtaining an indication of weight of an occupying item of the seat, a signal is transmitted from the interrogator on the vehicle to the force-measuring device and from the force-measuring device, the transmitted return signal related to the response of the force-measuring device to the downward deflection of the cushion is received.

5. A method for obtaining an indication of weight of an occupying item of a seat in a vehicle, comprising:
-
transmitting a signal from an interrogator on the vehicle to a force-measuring device that responds to downward deflection of a cushion of the seat, the cushion deflecting downward as a function of weight of the occupying item; and receiving from the force-measuring device, as a response to receipt by the force-measuring device of the signal from the interrogator, a transmitted return signal related to the response of the force-measuring device to the downward deflection of the cushion. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7, 8)
