Abstract

Disclosed are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for setting a reminder triggered by a target device. A requesting device sends a request to a server to set a reminder triggered by a target device. The request includes parameters, such as a location and a condition that define when the reminder is triggered. The server sends instruction to the target device to set the reminder based on the parameters. When the condition such as arrival is met by the target device in relation to the location the target device sends a message to the server that the reminder has been triggered. The target device can set a geo-fence to determine the position of the target device in relation to the location, and the requesting user can dictate the size of the geo-fence. The server sends a notification to the requesting device that the reminder has been triggered.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

receiving by a server, from a requesting device, a request to set up a reminder that is triggered by a target device, the reminder being associated with a location and a condition;

transmitting by the server to the target device, an instruction to set up the reminder on the target device;

receiving by the server from the target device, a message that the reminder has been triggered; and

transmitting, by the server to the requesting device, a notification that the reminder has been triggered by the target device.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the reminder is triggered upon the condition being met in relation to the location.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 2, wherein the condition dictates an action that must be performed by the target device in relation to the location to trigger the reminder.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 3, wherein the condition is arrival and the reminder is triggered when the target device arrives at the location.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 3, wherein the condition is departure and the reminder is triggered when the target device departs from the location.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 3, wherein a geo-fence of a predetermined size is set around the target device to determine the position of the target device in relation to the location.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 3, wherein a geo-fence of a predetermined size is set around the location to determine the position of the target device in relation to the location.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 6, the request to create a reminder on the target device includes data that dictates the size of the geo-fence.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining whether the requesting device has permission to set the reminder on the target device.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the reminder is associated with a frequency that dictates whether the reminder should be repeated.

11. The computer-implemented method of claim 1, wherein the notification states that the condition has been met in relation to the location.

12. A system, comprising:

a processor; and

a memory containing instruction that, when executed, cause the processor to;

receive from a requesting device, a request to set up a reminder that is triggered by a target device, the reminder being associated with a location and a condition;

transmit to the target device, an instruction to set up the reminder on the target device;

receive from the target device, a message that the reminder has been triggered; and

transmit to the requesting device, a notification that the reminder has been triggered.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the reminder is triggered upon the condition being met in relation to the location.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the condition dictates an action that must be performed by the target device in relation to the location to trigger the reminder.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the condition is arrival and the reminder is triggered when the target device arrives at the location.

16. The system of claim 14, wherein the condition is departure and the reminder is triggered when the target device departs from the location.

17. The system of claim 14, wherein a geo-fence of a predetermined size is set around the target device to determine the position of the target device in relation to the location.

18. The system of claim 14, wherein a geo-fence of a predetermined size is set around the location to determine the position of the target device in relation to the location.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the request to create a reminder on the target device includes data that dictates the size of the geo-fence.

20. The system of claim 12, wherein the instructions stored on the memory further cause the processor to:

determine whether the requesting device has permission to set the reminder on the target device.

21. The system of claim 12, wherein the reminder is associated with a frequency that dictates whether the reminder should be repeated.

22. The system of claim 12, wherein the notification states that the condition has been met in relation to the location.

23. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium, storing instruction that, when executed by a computing device, cause the computing device to:

receive from a requesting device, a request to set up a reminder that is triggered by a target device, the reminder being associated with a location and a condition;

transmit to the target device, an instruction to set up the reminder on the target device;

receive from the target device, a message that the reminder has been triggered; and

transmit to the requesting device, a notification that the reminder has been triggered.

24. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 23, wherein the reminder is triggered upon the condition being met in relation to the location.

25. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 24, wherein the condition dictates an action that must be performed by the target device in relation to the location to trigger the reminder.

26. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 25, wherein the condition is arrival and the reminder is triggered when the target device arrives at the location.

27. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 25, wherein the condition is departure and the reminder is triggered when the target device departs from the location.

28. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 25, wherein a geo-fence of a predetermined size is set around the target device to determine the position of the target device in relation to the location.

29. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 25, wherein a geo-fence of a predetermined size is set around the location to determine the position of the target device in relation to the location.

30. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 28, wherein the request to create a reminder on the target device includes data that dictates the size of the geo-fence.

31. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 23, wherein the instructions further cause the computing device to:

determine whether the requesting device has permission to set the reminder on the target device.

32. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 23, wherein the reminder is associated with a frequency that dictates whether the reminder should be repeated.

33. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 23, wherein the notification states that the condition has been met in relation to the location.
