Abstract

Particular embodiments include a method comprising accessing location data representing a first location of a first user wherein the first location corresponds to geographic coordinates, retrieving image data defining a graphical map from a remote server based on the first location accessing a search query inputted by the first user, retrieving one or more second locations in response to the search query, where the one or more second locations correspond to geographic coordinates, and displaying a first view comprising a list of the one or more second locations overlaying at least a portion of the graphical map, wherein the graphical map includes indicators for the first location and at least one of the one or more second locations in accordance with their respective geographic coordinates.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

accessing, by a computing device, location data representing a first location of a first user wherein the first location corresponds to geographic coordinates;

retrieving image data defining a graphical map from a remote server based on the first location;

accessing a search query inputted by the first user;

retrieving, by one or more computing devices, one or more second locations in response to the search query, where the one or more second locations correspond to geographic coordinates; and

displaying, by one or more computing devices, a first view comprising a list of the one or more second locations overlaying at least a portion of the graphical map, wherein the graphical map includes indicators for the first location and at least one of the one or more second locations in accordance with their respective geographic coordinates.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

in response to input by the first user, displaying, by one or more computing devices, a second view comprising the list of the one or more second locations overlaying the graphical map, wherein one of the one or more second locations is highlighted and the map is centered on the geographic coordinates of the highlighted second location.

3. The method of claim 2 wherein the one of the one or more second locations is centered in a portion of the graphical map unobscured by the list.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

in response to input by the first user, displaying, by one or more computing devices, a third view comprising;

the list of the one or more second locations overlaying the map, wherein one of the one or more second locations is highlighted and the map is centered and zoomed in on the geographic coordinates of the highlighted second location.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the list of the one or more second locations overlaying the geographical map is translucent enabling the map to be at least slightly visible through the list.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

retrieving social data corresponding to at least one of the one or more second locations; and

displaying the social data associated with the at least one of the one or more second locations.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein the social data comprises recent check-in activity associated with one or more social network contacts of the first user.

8. A system comprising:

a memory comprising instructions executable by one or more processors; and

the one or more processors coupled to the memory and operable to execute the instructions, the one or more processors being operable when executing the instructions to;

access location data representing a first location of a first user wherein the first location corresponds to geographic coordinates;

retrieve image data defining a graphical map from a remote server based on the first location;

access a search query inputted by the first user;

retrieve one or more second locations in response to the search query, where the one or more second locations correspond to geographic coordinates; and

display a first view comprising a list of the one or more second locations overlaying at least a portion of the graphical map, wherein the graphical map includes indicators for the first location and at least one of the one or more second locations in accordance with their respective geographic coordinates.

9. The system of claim 8, further comprising:

display a second view in response to input by the first user, the second view comprising the list of the one or more second locations overlaying the graphical map, wherein one of the one or more second locations is highlighted and the map is centered on the geographic coordinates of the highlighted second location.

10. The system of claim 9 wherein the one of the one or more second locations is centered in a portion of the graphical map unobscured by the list.

11. The system of claim 8, further comprising:

display, in response to input by the first user, a third view comprising;

the list of the one or more second locations overlaying the map, wherein one of the one or more second locations is highlighted and the map is centered and zoomed in on the geographic coordinates of the highlighted second location.

12. The system of claim 8, wherein the list of the one or more second locations overlaying the geographical map is translucent enabling the map to be at least slightly visible through the list.

13. The system of claim 8, further comprising:

retrieve social data corresponding to at least one of the one or more second locations; and

display the social data associated with the at least one of the one or more second locations.

14. The system of claim 13 wherein the social data comprises recent check-in activity associated with one or more social network contacts of the first user.

15. One or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying software operable when executed by one or more computer systems to:

access location data representing a first location of a first user wherein the first location corresponds to geographic coordinates;

retrieve image data defining a graphical map from a remote server based on the first location;

access a search query inputted by the first user;

retrieve one or more second locations in response to the search query, where the one or more second locations correspond to geographic coordinates; and

display a first view comprising a list of the one or more second locations overlaying at least a portion of the graphical map, wherein the graphical map includes indicators for the first location and at least one of the one or more second locations in accordance with their respective geographic coordinates.

16. The media of claim 15, further comprising:

display a second view in response to input by the first user, the second view comprising the list of the one or more second locations overlaying the graphical map, wherein one of the one or more second locations is highlighted and the map is centered on the geographic coordinates of the highlighted second location.

17. The media of claim 16 wherein the one of the one or more second locations is centered in a portion of the graphical map unobscured by the list.

18. The media of claim 15, further comprising:

display, in response to input by the first user, a third view comprising;

the list of the one or more second locations overlaying the map, wherein one of the one or more second locations is highlighted and the map is centered and zoomed in on the geographic coordinates of the highlighted second location.

19. The media of claim 15, wherein the list of the one or more second locations overlaying the geographical map is translucent enabling the map to be at least slightly visible through the list.

20. The media of claim 15, further comprising:

retrieve social data corresponding to at least one of the one or more second locations; and

display the social data associated with the at least one of the one or more second locations.

21. The media of claim 15 wherein the social data comprises recent check-in activity associated with one or more social network contacts of the first user.
