Abstract

A repeater, broadcast transmitting system, and method for relaying a broadcast signal between a gateway apparatus and a client apparatus are provided. The repeater includes a first interface which is configured to be connected to a gateway apparatus via a Wi-Fi communication protocol and is configured to receive a broadcast signal from the gateway apparatus; and a second interface which is configured to be connected to a client apparatus via the Wi-Fi communication protocol and is configured to transmit the broadcast signal to the client apparatus, wherein the first interface and the second interface use different frequency bands.

Claims

1. A repeater comprising:

a first interface which is configured to be connected to a gateway apparatus via a Wi-Fi communication protocol and is configured to receive a broadcast signal from the gateway apparatus; and

a second interface which is configured to be connected to a client apparatus via the Wi-Fi communication protocol and is configured to transmit the broadcast signal to the client apparatus,

wherein the first interface and the second interface use different frequency bands.

The repeater as claimed in claim 1, wherein the different frequency bands comprise a lower frequency band corresponding to the first interface and an upper frequency band corresponding to the second interface, and the lower and the upper frequency bands are separated from each other by a predetermined number of channels or a predetermined frequency band.

3. The repeater as claimed in claim 1, wherein the different frequency bands are included in an unlicensed frequency band.

4. The repeater as claimed in claim 1, wherein the different frequency bands comprise a frequency band that is higher than a dynamic frequency selection (DFS) frequency band and a frequency band that is lower than the DFS frequency band.

The repeater as claimed in claim 1, wherein the different frequency bands comprise a lower frequency band corresponding to the first interface and an upper frequency band corresponding to the second interface, and each of the lower and the upper frequency bands comprises channels of a DFS frequency band and channels of a non-DFS frequency band.

The repeater as claimed in claim 1, wherein the different frequency bands comprise an upper frequency band corresponding to the first interface and a lower frequency band corresponding to the second interface, and each of the upper and the lower frequency bands comprises channels of a DFS frequency band and channels of a non-DFS frequency band.

7. The repeater as claimed in claim 1, wherein the different frequency bands are included in an unlicensed frequency band within a frequency band of 5 GHz defined by the Wi-Fi communication protocol.

8. The repeater as claimed in claim 7, wherein the different frequency bands are included in an unlicensed frequency band that is higher than a DFS frequency band defined within the frequency band of 5 GHz and an unlicensed frequency band that is lower than the DFS frequency band.

9. The repeater as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first interface further comprises a first antenna,

the second interface further comprises a second antenna, and

resonant frequencies of the first and second antennas are respectively tuned to the different frequency bands.

10. The repeater as claimed in claim 1, wherein at least one of the first and second antennas is ceramic and has a Q value larger than a predetermined Q value.

11. A broadcast transmitting system comprising a gateway apparatus and a repeater which are connected to each other according to a Wi-Fi communication protocol, the broadcast transmitting system comprising:

the gateway apparatus which transmits a broadcast signal to the repeater via a predetermined frequency band; and

the repeater which transmits the broadcast signal to a client apparatus via a different frequency band, which is different from the predetermined frequency band.

12. The broadcast transmitting system as claimed in claim 11, wherein the predetermined frequency band is included in an unlicensed frequency band that is higher than a dynamic frequency selection (DFS) frequency band within a 5 GHz defined by the Wi-Fi communication protocol, and

wherein the different frequency band is included in an unlicensed frequency band that is lower than the DFS frequency band.

13. The broadcast transmitting system as claimed in claim 11, wherein the predetermined frequency band is included in an unlicensed frequency band that is lower than a dynamic frequency selection (DFS) frequency band defined by the Wi-Fi communication protocol, and

wherein the different frequency band is included in an unlicensed frequency band that is higher than the DFS frequency band.

14. The broadcast transmitting system as claimed in claim 11, wherein the repeater transmits a channel tuning command requested by the client apparatus to the gateway apparatus, and

wherein the gateway apparatus transmits a broadcast signal corresponding to the channel tuning command to the repeater.

15. The broadcast transmitting system as claimed in claim 14, wherein the gateway apparatus comprises:

an interface which is connected to the repeater according to the Wi-Fi communication protocol;

a tuner unit which tunes to a channel according to the channel tuning command received from the repeater;

a signal processor which processes the broadcast signal, the broadcast signal being received through the channel tuned by the tuner unit; and

a controller which controls the interface to transmit the broadcast signal, which is processed by the signal processor, to the repeater via the different frequency band.

16. The broadcast transmitting system as claimed in claim 15, wherein the signal processor converts the broadcast signal into an MPEG-2 transport stream (TS),

wherein the interface transmits the MPEG-2 TS to the repeater via an unlicensed frequency band within a frequency band of 5 GHz defined by the Wi-Fi communication protocol.

17. A method for relaying a broadcast signal between a gateway apparatus and a client apparatus, the method comprising:

receiving the broadcast signal from the gateway apparatus via a predetermined frequency band; and

transmitting the broadcast signal to the client apparatus via a different frequency band, which is different from the predetermined frequency band.

18. The method as claimed in claim 17, wherein the predetermined frequency band and the different frequency band are included in an unlicensed frequency band within a frequency band of 5 GHz defined by a Wi-Fi communication protocol.

19. The method as claimed in claim 18, wherein the predetermined frequency band is included in an unlicensed frequency band that is higher than a dynamic frequency selection (DFS) frequency band defined within the frequency band of 5 GHz,

wherein the different frequency band is included in an unlicensed frequency band that is lower than the DFS frequency band.

20. The method as claimed in claim 18, wherein the predetermined frequency band is included in an unlicensed frequency band that is lower than a dynamic frequency selection (DFS) frequency band defined within the frequency band of 5 GHz,

wherein the different frequency band is included in an unlicensed frequency band that is higher than the DFS frequency band.
